More than 250 ‘high risk’ outfalls across England, which channel polluted run-off from major roads into waterways, are within striking distance of protected sites.

Well done @tesscolley.bsky.social and @jamiecarpenter.bsky.social for exposing this.

#bbcqt @libdemdaisy.bsky.social was spot on last night, the UK needs public transport to reduce traffic on our roads - the LTC was a bad decision for health outcomes, green belt erosion and cost to the public. Rail options exist but successive governments failed to investigate them

It was a pity Thurrock / Essex Council didn’t provide enough support for a station in Thurrock at the time, so much industry on the north shore of the Thames would have made sense. A missed opportunity for sure!

I guess adding more stations to HS1 would slow this down and make it a metro. by using the tram from purfleet P&R to ebbsfleet wouldn’t take long and maintain the HS service

Certainly makes a lot of sense - all those HGVs moved by heavy rail is key for traffic reductions at Dartford. Local transport also plays a key part too - that needs a step change going forward.

Surely before the government spends time thinking about whether to approve a £10billion road scheme other options would have been properly considered.

Apparently not.

So, we commissioned research looking into alternatives to the Lower Thames Crossing.

Today I met Gwendoline Cazenave, CEO of #Eurostar, to press the case alongside other local MPs for the reintroduction of international train services from Ebbsfleet and Ashford International stations.

I highlighted how critical it was for the visitor and business economy for growth

Rachel Reeves is talking about growth but wants to go ahead with the Lower Thames Crossing 🤔

It would make a poor investment and deliver little economic growth compared to its huge cost.

Lauren, the LTC is not approved, it still needs to attract funding and the DCO.
