Excellent news!
Just reflecting on a great week at the IAL-IPA joint meeting in Aix-les-Bains. Lots of PalaeOpen work through a poster, a talk and a full-day workshop as well. And a great social to round up proceedings!
Just coming to the end of my first week as a lecturer at @royalholloway.bsky.social - great times chatting to colleagues old and new. Next week it's off to Macedonia to host a workshop for the PalaeOpen COST Action, very exciting too

Might have to rethink that @rspb.bsky.social membership 😛
From half May I will be joining RHUL - I am really looking forward to this bext phase of my career!
Last week I handed back my office keys and laptop, which wrapped up my time at BBK. Nearly 8 years, they have flown by and I learned a lot! In a month's time I'll be starting a new position (which I'm really looking forward to). In the meanwhile, BBK is now recruiting: cis7.bbk.ac.uk/vacancy/lect...
Just added @cesar-morales.bsky.social and @laurahmt.bsky.social to this starter pack in #palaeoecology

Thank you! And of course I'm happy to share a pdf (coming right up :)). To manage expectations though, we didn't really focus on Quercus as that wasn't a major constituent of the NW European forests of the time

Great stuff, really interesting manuscript!
Nearly ready to turn on my auto-reply and start the holidays, and just reflecting on a thing my Phd supervisor Sjoerd Bohncke (who sadly no longer is with us) used to say: "Strange things can happen in the Holocene" :)
Have a nice break everyone!
Picture showing the sample mass needed for Chironomid head capsule d18O measurement as well as results for a Cellulose standard. The results show that results stabilise above ca 25 ug of material, which smaller samples showing increasingly lower d18O values. This result applies to both the chironomid material and the standard that was tested
Very grateful that Chris Francis and I were asked to contribute some work that illustrates "how low you can go" in terms of sample weight of chironomid HC samples used for d18O analyses
Great to see the paper by @angelalamb.bsky.social appear OA in Quat Sci Rev! The paper reviews the recent progress on stable isotope analyses on invertebrate remains found in lake sediment records. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Always nice to see ones work appear in print. Esp this one, as it's my first book chapter and it was a while in the making - with @fossilbeetle.bsky.social
Lots of other great chapters in there too!
Marking essays will never be the favourite part of my job, but it does become a whole heap more pleasant when the final paper of the bunch is a well-written insightful piece where I even learned a few new things :)
Looking forward to starting my 1st year module on Environmental Science today. A general introduction through the concept of Planetary Boundaries (and yes I know the version below is now outdated :))
