there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that:

1. Climate change is real
2. Vaccines work
3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😀

GODDAMIT. IT’S NOT A RESURRECTED DIRE WOLF. 20 edits in 19,000 genes.

IT’S NOT GOING TO AID CONSERVATION.

EVERY WRITE UP THAT SWALLOWS AND REGURGITATES THIS GUFFERY WOLFSHIT IS DOING PR FOR A FUNDING ROUND.

This is such nonsense. This company "claims that the same techniques it uses to summon back species from the dead could prevent existing but endangered animals from slipping into extinction themselves." We already have a method for preventing extinction. It's called conservation, and it works.

Dire Wolves Were Not Really Wolves, New Genetic Clues Reveal The extinct giant canids were a remarkable example of convergent evolution

Dire wolves were not close relatives of gray wolves. They last shared a common ancestor more than 5 million years ago. What Colossal has done is make something new and slapped a dire wolf sticker on it, as if an organism equals a hypothetical genome.

Gene editing technology began by people studying salt marshes. Ozempic began by folks studying the venom of Gila Monsters. Support for basic science has empowered us to understand our world. Tethering it to applications health has transformed and saved countless lives.

Charlie and I took a trip to North Herts Museum yesterday. He was very interested in the natural history section. So so proud of how well this boy has adapted to civilian life πŸ₯° #belgianmalinois #retiredmwd

Someone told me recently that it was impossible for adult male elephants to seals to be cute. I’ve never heard someone be so wrong before.

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere.

The turn of the year's tide, a pivot-point, a day of hopeβ€”when the dark stops rising & after which the Sun begins its slow climb back.
A day I celebrate more than Christmas or New Year.

Fiat lux!
