Sandhill cranes taking flight over a wetland in the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico

In trying to salvage a silk purse from a sow’s ear of a shot, I am feeling inspired to capture how dynamic nature is. Hopefully more to come on this theme, especially work that is intentional. #photography #birds #motion #bif #birdsinflight #newmexico

Visited Gila Cliff Dwellings, amazing place, always interesting to see how people existed at different times. Playing with some black and white, split toning and color grading #photography #Newmexico #Southwest #archaeology #blackandwhite

Two Sandhill cranes flying

A couple of Sandhill cranes flying. I always enjoy watching these big, ungainly birds flying around, calling as they do, such a distinctive call. I really need to work on my BIF skills.

Very lucky getting this sequence of a Northern Harrier swooping in to attack something in the water at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. The bird flew off without anything, the whole sequence took about 3 seconds. #photography #birds #newmexico #southwest

Unusually, there was a balloon aloft in the late afternoon above Albuquerque, New Mexico. #photography #landscapes #sunset #goldenhour #bluehour #newmexico #southwest

Not quite a silk purse from a sow’s ear, my super beaver moon from last week. Looming over hills near Placitas, New Mexico. Made a few poor choices when taking this picture that made it difficult to work with, so now I have a goal of getting better at this sort of thing.

I call these ‘rabbitbrush among the cactus’. This particular area hosts a veritable sea of cholla and prickly pear cacti and the bit of these blooming rabbitbrush really stood out and caught my eye. A splash of color in the more drab palette of the cacti.
