Having alters is wonderful and all, until you’ve lost three things in thirty minutes and can’t STAY ON TRACK TO FIND THEM!!!

As the alter with the most denial, changing speech from “me” to “we” has been so difficult.

I am trying so hard to accept this. I’m being told that it’s real, I know these things are happening, but the acceptance is SO DIFFICULT.

Filing cabinets - Our Memory System.

Inside our brain, there are different files that hold different alter’s memories. Some are locked, but as alters connect, it is helping us to understand and communicate more easily.

Physiotherapist: “So last time you told me about this traumatizing event that happened to you all.”

Alter who is co-fronting with no clue about what happened: “Wait WHAT!!?!”

Unlocking memories within the system can be a fun time.

Being a Male alter in a system where nearly everyone else is female, often means that I will front and immediately panic because there are suddenly acrylic nails. 😆💅

Just living life every day wondering what surprise purchase will be in the bank account next.
Recently had to work a “stuffed animal” limit into the budget because of a certain alter that is too convincing when it comes to toys.
What I have to do for this brain….

Sometimes it feels like my brain is the opening village scene from Beauty and the Beast.

One moment there is a beautiful chorus of villagers singing in harmony.

But the next moment, everyone is running around screaming for eggs and bread.

We relate 100% to this! It’s one thing to agree on change, but then to actually make it happen, not a quick process. 😅

Part of the DID experience that we struggle with, is coming to collective agreements about large emotional decisions.
There are so many feelings and opinions. The Simply Plural app polls really help with making majority decisions on things. But sometimes everyone just won’t agree.

Alter who does the work routine: “Hey guys, I have a lot to do today. I just need quiet for a few hours this afternoon.”

It’s a struggle to be a functioning member of society (aka my work place) today.

I wish the world stopped when the brain stopped. 😂 It would be a lot easier to cope with people who don’t know all of the alters that exist in this brain.

Psychotherapist: So what is your end goal in therapy?

Host: To co-exist happily with all of my alters.

Psychotherapist: Ok perfect. That is what I would love for us to work towards.

Alter with trust issues: SHE HATES US!!

Healing takes time, pals 🤦‍♀️

In the middle of a conversation:

*Dissociates*

Alter who has no idea what’s is going on: “I’m so sorry, could you please repeat what you just said?”

I’m sorry you had to educate in that kind of environment.
It’s so wild what people think is appropriate to ask someone. 😅

Some days it feels like I’m being thrown around inside my own head.
I’m here until I’m not.
I ground and then take off again.
It’s as if the brain has a well trained astronaut team but no contact with Mission Control.
I just want to land.

sincerely,
A tired space cadet.

#DID really has been a journey. And when I say a journey, I should actually say a mission.

A mission where you have kids, teens, and adults all trying to share their opinions and you end up never leaving the house. 😂

Yes. Love that! We have so much phone storage taken up by games. 😂

Also are in the same boat and TRY not to have them fronting alone. 💞

Unfortunately, there may be an error with internal brain transmission! Please try again. 😂

We also just joined Bluesky! Very new but very happy to have a social media feed that feels comforting. ✨

That’s awesome! 🤩 You all must be breathing big sighs of relief now. 😅

All of this is so relatable. 😮‍💨

We also compare it to being like a computer and call this our “buffering” moments.

It’s so frustrating especially when there are different opinions on what to say, how to say it, and if it should even be said it in the first place. 😫

Yes! Denial was so hard to cope with in the beginning. And still deal with some now, even tho it’s much better!
Having parts who know it is real vs parts who desperately don’t want to accept? Would not wish that mental turmoil on anyone. 😮‍💨

For others with #dissociativeidentitydisorder, just curious, how do you navigate littles in day to day adult life?

For us: a stuffed animal in my bag and a small stimming toy (a squishy bear or fidget block) to be prepared for all events. 🧸
And a favourite - a kid’s music playlist! 🎵

Tips for #DID systems in office jobs:

- Work notebook that always stays next to the work station. 📓
- Sticky notes for important things that could be missed. 📒
- Outlook Calendar to make tasks throughout the day that can easily be followed by all. 🗓️
- Headphones to block external noise 🎶

1. Being able to find a way to navigate daily life that is a good fit for everyone! 👏
2. One of us is a real “let’s figure this out” type. This is great but can be a struggle when it comes to triggers and anxiety. Therapists advice was: “Don’t push forward without permission. Ask.” Game changer!
