This National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week, we’re proud to recognize the dedication, compassion and courage of our incredible Humane Law Enforcement team. Because of them, 40 dogs living in a 500-square-foot apartment in unsanitary conditions got a second chance at life!

Our team completed several successful renestings of great horned owlets, giving these babies a second chance to grow up wild with their families! Thank you to our Renest & Reunite team for coordinating and West Coast Arborists for helping us place these babies back into the wild!
Our team has had their hands full with great horned owl babies — 16 in just 10 days! Our team suspects the recent heat may have caused some of these babies to fall from their nests prematurely. They’re now receiving specialized treatment and rehabilitation until they’re ready to return to the wild!
Thank you for sharing!
Right now, a pair of male black bear cubs is safe and receiving care at our Ramona Wildlife Center! Our skilled team of wildlife veterinarians performed a comprehensive exam and found the brothers to be in good health. Because they’re so young, they’ll need months of extensive care.
Brace yourself — the clip you’re about to watch may cause involuntary “awwws” and a sudden urge to adopt a puppy. It’s National Puppy Day!
Please take extra precautions to keep your animals safe during this heatwave in San Diego County! Important tips, graphics and FAQ's are available at sdhumane.org/heatsafety.
It’s always heartbreaking to see an animal arrive in this condition, but nothing compares to witnessing their transformation once they receive the care they deserve! This was certainly the case for Peluca. Thanks to the swift work of our medical staff, her physical recovery began almost immediately.

A young man in a dark blue shirt wears a leather gauntlet on his left arm, on which a tethered one-eyed red-shouldered hawk perches.
Went to a neat free event today sponsored by the #SanDiegoRiverParkFoundation w/ speaker from @sdhumane.bsky.social #ProjectWildlife. We learned about local raptors, like this one... his name is Popeye and he's a one-eyed 22-year-old red-shouldered hawk weighing in at close to 1.5 pounds. 🤩
After accidentally running into a swimming pool, this little bunny was brought to us for care. Fortunately, there were no major injuries, and was overall healthy. Our team provided subq fluids and close monitoring to support recovery. After 9 days, this resilient little bun was released back home!
This young bobcat kitten was unresponsive and in critical condition when she was found. She was emaciated, anemic and suffering from mange. Once in our care, she received fluids and medications to treat infections and support her recovery. After months of rehabilitation, she was released home!
Mother’s Day isn’t until May, but trust us, this special gal shouldn’t have to wait until then to receive the kudos she so clearly deserves. Meet Hyena. Despite coming to us in rough shape, the new mom tended to her pups with all she had, making sure they grew big and strong with barely a break
With San Diego County Department of Animal Services, we're offering free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries at our San Diego Campus!
This #WorldSpayDay, we’re reminding our community just how powerful one simple decision can be: spaying and neutering your pets! Spaying and neutering reduces overcrowding in shelters, eases strain on limited resources and most importantly, saves lives.
Mija’s just popping in to say she hopes you have a great weekend!

After 252 days in our care, our beloved Santana has officially been adopted! He was so adored by staff & volunteers that he affectionately earned the title of “Mayor” of our Oceanside Campus. So when the day finally came for him to head home it was only fitting that a crowd gathered to send him off.
Kyle came to us last summer after surviving a coyote attack. Because he was bitten, he had to complete a six-month rabies quarantine. When he passed quarantine, our staff went all out with a graduation party. There were banners. Party hats. Stickers. Kyle trivia. And yes, a graduation cap & gown

Apollo came into our care in April of 2022. Initially shy, Apollo slowly began to come out of his shell with the support of our team. Over time, he made incredible progress building confidence. And on Jan. 17, all that hard work paid off. A family came in specifically to meet him to adopt!
When we rescued 40 dogs from an apartment in La Mesa, 3 of them were puppies just over a week old. They were placed in a foster home for around-the-clock care. Shortly after, as our teams completed examinations of all the dogs, we were able to identify their mother and reunite her with her puppies!
From the moment Pips was adopted, it was clear he was ready to settle in and start her new life. Her adopter shared: "Just wanted to say thank you for rescuing Pips she is so happy in her new home! She’s been sweet, playful & curious. Thank you for all the care you gave her. She’s already so loved!"
We’ve got an unusual crew in care right now — three baby desert cottontails! This tiny crew was found last month and brought to us for care. Because our team doesn't typically see babies this young this time of year, their arrival was quite the surprise!
If you need a little joy today, check out these clips from our first raccoon release of the year! Our PW team recently released these rehabilitated raccoons to Los Peñasquitos Preserve, and watching them return home is impossible not to smile at.
Our ERT was called to Alpine to assist in a technical rescue for a horse named Jasmine after she went down and was unable to get back up on her own. Our team worked tirelessly to stabilize and lift her safely, giving this senior horse a second chance!
We're stepping into the new year with a VERY special new beginning! After nearly a year in our care, our beloved Dingo has finally found his home.
