“Stylistically it has the feel of a Fellini movie that has been edited by David Lynch and it all makes for a really unusual and unsettling experience”

The final stanza ‘Vernacular Green’ Janet Murray

(i.m. Howard Hodgkin 1932-2017)

In this moment he speaks

Indian green where a greener green

can be unleashed, somewhere between

emerald and jade, a brush dipped

in feathers round a teal duck’s eye.

Dutch railway stations are usually super modern, but Haarlem is a lovely Art Nouveau design. All the waiting rooms and whatnot are on a central island platform. In that respect it's a bit like Preston, Lancashire. Unlike Preston it's beautifully maintained and is really very striking. #BelieveInFilm

WATERCOLOR It is the first hour. From the orient comes the sun. The moon, despoiled of the gold of night, goes down slowly towards the west that waits for it under the line of the horizon....

From ‘Watercolor’ Meira Delmar (1922-2009)

On the basso continuo
of the shore
the waves unravel,
one by one,
the music they bring
from as far
as time,
and it’s a tune, and another tune
and a thousand more tunes,
rhythmic, repeated,
spilled on the sand.

@barnsleymuseums.bsky.social

I'm visiting Penistone Arts week,
Where artists and authors speak,
Of work completed just in time,
And of the hills they had to climb.

A market town set upon a hill,
Round every corner, find a thrill,
Market's held in the market barn,
Stories told, make a good yarn.
