"The digitisation of cultural heritage has unlocked unprecedented access to human knowledge. But it has also created unprecedented vulnerabilities."
Ransomware combined with increased AI-bots are becoming a real strain on severely underfunded infrastructures.

In my experience (Austria) it means that younger academics can't be funded and are flushed out of the system. Chance of publishing on the topic depends on their financial situation.
War die nicht irgendwann auf schauplatz Gericht?
I think if you grabbed any famous thinker from centuries ago and showed them Wikipedia and told them it was free for anyone to access, they would say it is humanity's crowning achievement and would be indifferent to the moon landings, modern medicine, flight, or anything else you showed them

This is the best piece of reporting I’ve seen so far on what is going on at IMLS. I encourage everyone who cares about the key role that libraries and museums play in the United States to read it. news.artnet.com/art-world/do...
Wikipedia just surprised me with access to the Wikipedia digital library with its top notch selection of publishers. AND I CAN GET ALL THE ARTICLES AND BOOKS AGAIN (even the ones my husband can't get through his institution).

And then chatgpt starts making up properties and QIDs and the magic ends
Leveling up my SPARQL queries with some chatgpt magic. They aren't highly complex but so much faster.

Working through a largish bibliography to identify trends.
Why do archaeologists always give their sites names that are difficult to find on general maps, then use variations of the name and then finally change the site name 3 years later...
My favorite project was a government run/funded project from 2005, but they must have stopped paying for the webaddress because now the website sells cryptocurrency. Lots of government papers link to the website.
Refreshing my #OpenRefine skills and updating an old project on #wikidata . It's always so much fun to see all that's been added but also means a lot of cleanup. A bit more cleanup, and then I'll have the project back on track.
Haven't tried it but the design of the website is so clean and clearly written.
I was just trying to remember how to do this. Thanks for the great instructions!

Picture of idyllic, snow-capped mountains reflecting in a lake.
Not the view I was expecting from the window of an assessment center.

Thank you!
Is there a pattern for this @killgrove.bsky.social ? Beautifully made!
I've been glued to my phone lately trying to keep up with what's going on here. So exciting to read all the conversations. Time to shut down that old account somewhere else.
The last couple of months, I've been teaching a few hours/week of computer ed at local school. I'm a bit stumped because I can't find the gamers - do less kids play computer games and opt for social media instead?
Ok. That makes sense! If you're ever interested. Let me know! There are a couple of bots.
Do you know whether your photos have been exported to Wikimedia commons? Or is that something that would interest you?
Finally got the info that my vote from abroad was registered.
So yes. I VOTED! And so should you!

Nice! Now I need to find the kit for Ephesus.
Now that I no longer work directly at a university, I really enjoy adjuncting. My salary isn't dependent on them, and I just get to enjoy talking with students, discussing topics. Adding in practical aspects, challenging theoretical perspectives.

@plussone.bsky.social has created an awesome Comms guide! "Tool for Activists: How to Write a Press Release."
The guide covers, "Why talk to the media?" and includes examples that run the gamut from BLM Chicago to the Chicago Dyke March and # NoCopAcademy.
