AB 2047 would destroy the consumer grade 3D printer and CNC market.

Without consumer-grade versions of manufacturing tech, it's cost prohibitive to get students started in engineering early.

Passage of this bill would guarantee a downward spiral in the supply of new American mechanical engineers

EFF: California 3D printer bill threatens digital freedoms : Proposed law could lock down open source tools and give vendors fresh reasons to inspect print files

EFF says California's proposed legislation to put the burden of blocking 3D-printed firearms onto printer manufacturers could effectively sideline open source tools and create new surveillance concerns, @theregister.com reports. www.theregister.com/2026/04/14/...

This mystical, magical species, once widespread across the country, has been pushed to the brink primarily due to habitat loss and kids losing interest in them.

Doubts emerge over police "first ever 3D gun" claims
Marcus Fairs | 25 October 2013 5 comments

News: Greater Manchester Police have issued a new statement following earlier claims that they had seized "component parts for what could be the UK's first ever 3D gun" after the 3D-printing community pointed out they may be harmless printer upgrade parts.

"We cannot categorically say we have recovered the component parts for a 3D gun," said the police, after Dezeen readers and technology websites raised doubts over the claims.

"I have worked with 3D-printers for several years, and I actually have that exact same printer, that's why I recognised the parts," said Dezeen reader Thor Henrik Bruun.

Bruun said other members of the 3D printing community were making a similar point on Facebook. "I had a look on the GMP Facebook page also, and the top comment is (was) someone else linking to similar parts," said Bruun.

Greater Manchester Police issued a statement earlier today titled "Component parts for UK's first 3D gun seized," describing how they had seized a MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer and printed components they suspected of being gun parts.

In a new statement issued this afternoon, assistant chief constable Steve Heywood said: "We need to be absolutely clear that at that this stage, we cannot categorically say we have recovered the component parts for a 3D gun.

"What we have seized are items that need further forensic testing by national ballistics experts to establish whether they can be used in the construction of a genuine, viable firearm.

"We will also be conducting a thorough analysis of computers we have recovered to establish any evidence of a blueprint on how to construct such a weapon."

Operation Allies Refuge was an evacuation effort carried out by the United States during the 2021 Taliban offensive. It took place in the final weeks of the War in Afghanistan and saw the airlifting of certain at-risk Afghan civilians (particularly coalition-allied interpreters), employees of the American embassy in Kabul, and other prospective applicants for the U.S. Special Immigrant Visa (SIV).[4][5] American personnel also helped NATO and other regional allies in their respective evacuation efforts from Hamid Karzai International Airport in the capital city of Kabul. The operation was concurrent with the broader American military withdrawal from Afghanistan and the multinational evacuation of eligible foreigners and vulnerable Afghans.

SIV applicants were airlifted to the U.S., where they were temporarily housed by the American military while they completed their SIV requirements.
Operational history

On 30 July, the first group of 221 Afghan interpreters arrived at Fort Lee, Virginia, for SIV processing, with at least 20,000 SIV holders and applicants still to be moved from Afghanistan.[4][6][9][10]

An Afghan immigrant who previously worked with the US military in Afghanistan and later sought asylum in the United States died this weekend in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody less than 24 hours after ‌being detained in Texas, a US veteran-led advocacy group said on Sunday.

Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal, who was living in a Dallas suburb with his wife and six children while his asylum case remained pending, was arrested by federal agents outside his flat on Friday morning while taking his children to school, the group AfghanEvac’s president Shawn VanDiver said in a statement.
Paktyawal died of unknown causes on Saturday, VanDiver said. Paktyawal, 41, is at least the 12th person to die in ICE detention this year under US President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Last year, 31 people died after being detained by ‌ICE, a two-decade high. ICE has played a central role in Trump’s policy of mass deportations.
The US Department of Homeland Security, which includes ICE, said it needs more time to respond ‌to a Reuters request for comment.

It is highly unusual ‌for an otherwise healthy 41-year-old man to die less than a day after being taken into government custody

Shawn VanDiver, president of AfghanEvac

According to VanDiver, Paktyawal’s family was told that he was taken to a hospital in Dallas on the night of his arrest and was still alive the following morning but died soon after.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The United States is in parallel gun
violence and physical inactivity cri-
ses.
Higher levels of firearm fatalities are
associated with higher levels of physi-
cal inactivity.
It is crucial that the key drivers of
physical inactivity be identified and
addressed—creating safe environ-
ments for physical activity is an
important factor.

Regional Cultures
The American Nations regional
model was obtained from the
Nationhood Lab.17 A brief descrip-
tion of the American Nations model
is as follows: Cultural geographers
have long recognized First Settler
effects on the characteristics of
national cultures, with Wilbur
Zelinsky’s “Doctrine of First Effec-
tive Settlement” 18 arguing that “the
dominant culture of a given nation
is determined by the characteristics
of the first group of settlers . . .
regardless of how small the initial
band of settlers might have been.”
Regional cultures can thus be discerned and mapped by
tracking competing first settlement streams, an exercise that
has informed the work of historians 19,20 and geographers. 21
