I fell in love with the original years ago so I had to own the Japanese version, even if I’ll never read all of it!

I love ダジャレ and 当て字 so I think I’ll enjoy that part 😅

Austrian composer Alban Berg was born #OTD in 1885. In the Nazis eyes, his crime was to have studied with the Schoenberg and Berg subsequently found his music proscribed and placed on the list of degenerate music. He died aged 50 in Vienna, Dec 1935.

Burbank speaks, at the side of church pastor James Gordon

Burbank speaks, at the side of church pastor James Gordon

Fresno, Calif., Bee

Fresno, Calif., Bee

Jan. 31, 1926: Invited to deliver a guest sermon at San Francisco’s First Congregational Church, the naturalist Luther Burbank defends his self-description as an “infidel.” “The idea that a good God would send people to a burning hell is utterly damnable to me,” he says.

My great uncle was one of the first to arrive at the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. He would never talk about it and if it was mentioned on TV or radio he would leave the room to be on his own somewhere to deal with his memory being refreshed of what he saw there.

Quartettino: I. Andante - Allegro molto e con fuoco
Quartettino: I. Andante - Allegro molto e con fuoco YouTube video by Endellion String Quartet - Topic

#TheCompleteBritten #30

Quartettino (1930)

"I am getting very fond of Schönberg, especially with study" (Britten's diary, 14th April 1930)

This key work shows the student going beyond his models and his teachers to make his own, thoroughly modern music of real power and emotional depth.

I never expected to equate Britten with Zemlinsky but the harmonic language here reminds me so much of Zemlinsky’s 3rd string quartet!

If you have two minutes spare, feel free to give my ‘Japanese Miniature for Solo Flute’ a listen and a like!
