"You're an author? Would I know anything you've written?"

"Have you heard of the book Eat Pray Love?"

"Oh wow. I have, actually!"

"Well, one of my books was printed in a typeface not totally dissimilar to the one in that."

My dear friend Nader alerted me to two Iranian members of the Arsenal family, Aref Jafarzadeh and Amir Housein, who were killed while seeking freedom in Iran. We remember them. ❤️

It’s hard to imagine someone more universally enjoyed than Catherine O’Hara where the opinions range from “I like her and her work” to “I love her and her work” and that’s a pretty good legacy

A fabulous moss-caked wall on Dartmoor, with some moss-caked boulders behind it

The big question is: Of all the mindboggling technological progress that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution, has any of it *really* awarded us anything even half as good as moss?

I thought I'd bought all my Unbound warehouse stock, but then I found out that OOINYA/Omni have a load more and are selling them as new via Amazon. I made them an offer to buy the whole lot and they refused. So all I can do is ask people to buy the new Swift Press versions of my books instead.

26 years ago I was sent to a London pub by a newspaper to interview and drink whisky with Lemmy, who was in the band Motorhead and, before that, slightly less famously, Hawkwind and, before that, much less famously, Sam Gopal. We had a good chat: about being from the part of the Midlands north of the River Trent, about books, and about roadying for Hendrix in the mid-60s (him, not me; I was minus nine at the time). When the record company PR sidled over to tell me my time was up, Lemmy waved him away. “No, no, I’m enjoying this,” he said, commandingly. I realised at this point that I had another question I’d been meaning to ask but hadn’t. “Are you scared of anything?” I said to Lemmy. “Nothing,” he replied. Then he paused and frowned for a moment, as if an idea had suddenly occurred to him. “Oh, maybe snakes,” he said. “It’s because they’ve got no shoulders.”

I remember all too little of the interviews I did with rock stars when I was briefly employed as the music critic for a national newspaper, but there is this.

Always a little awkward making small talk with the farrier while he’s working my hooves.
“You want the winter shoes?” he asks.
“Nailed it,” I say, instantly full of regret.

Cartoon drawing of a teenage mutant ninja turtle with a brown afro, like Bob Ross, and a yellow eye band. Labeled “Bob”, an honorary unofficial fifth TMNT. Bob looks like a shy friendly outcast ninja turtle, to be honest. Made for an 8yo boy who made a cute comment ☺️

One of my favorite fun facts is why the TMNT are named after artists (it’s because the type of turtle they are is a “painted turtle”). I told my nephew about this and he immediately replied that there should be a Bob Ross turtle. So rather than explain the renaissance movement to him, I-

The German police brutally assault an Irish woman protesting against Israel's genocide.

The German state is a disgrace.

It committed genocide against the Jewish people - far from its only genocide.

It forced Palestinians to pay the price, viciously silencing anyone who objects

I have been made very aware that perhaps the least commercially sensible move an author can make in this day and age - particularly a writer unpaid by his ex-publisher - is to write a collection of short stories so of late I've been devoting my time to writing a collection of short stories.

Off socials, but had to come back to pay tribute to these two. Can’t think of many others who have given me as much joy and delight as them. Two bona fide geniuses, who despite troubled personal lives, were sonic revolutionaries, fearlessly forging new paths as others scoffed. Immortal.

And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

The roadrunner. The edible part is circled, a paltry sliver of a meal, double digit calories.

If he catches the road runner, plucks the carcass, and cuts off the inedible parts, what's
left is basically a single McNugget worth of meat. Not a good use of the coyote's time.

Please RT: I was run over by a taxi on the north junction of London Bridge (in front of the Wolseley City) around 5.45pm this evening. Knocked off my bike.

There were a lot of witnesses. If you saw it, please get in touch.
