Graphic commemorating DC Emancipation Day. The DC flag waves across the top half of the image. Text reads: Commemorating DC Emancipation Day. April 16, 1862. First to be freed. The Greg Jaczko for DC campaign logo appears in the bottom right corner.
April 16, 1862: over 3,100 enslaved people in DC were freed, nine months before the Emancipation Proclamation. DC led the nation. Today we honor them and keep fighting injustice in our time. #DCEmancipationDay #dc #freedom

No Taxes Until Representation.
D.C. pays more per capita in federal taxes than anywhere in America and with zero votes in Congress. We’ve been civil long enough. It’s time to stop being obedient.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be on Sunrise on @thehill.com. No income taxes until we have statehood and what’s really driving DC’s rising cost of living.

it's not that simple. transformers, eg, are needed. rampant data center development even as "their own power" drives up cost and availability of transformers for other types of projects.
there's no such thing as totally isolated power.

How have we normalized the insane comments of the Trump -- the President of the United States????
Congress needs to use the powers DEMANDED -- not suggested or offered -- by the Constitution to remove Trump from office.

US 2025 battery deployment skyrocketed 52% by MW and 40% by MWh, compared to 2024!
Annual deployment nearly quadrupled since 2022.
Batteries are keys to firming solar and wind and increasing grid reliability.
They are now displacing gas peakers.

Unfit for Office
Donald Trump’s narcissism makes it impossible for him to carry out the duties of the presidency in the way the Constitution requires.
By George T. Conway III
Every so often—for no particular reason—I feel compelled to post a gift link to the 11,000-word article I published in @theatlantic.com seven years ago about Donald Trump's mental disorders and how they rendered him unfit to serve as president.

As a trained physicist, I can state Prof. Perkowitz is wrong. You can express the number. It is one less than the measure of the stupidity of the @nytimes.com for writing this article.

Side by side graphs of retail residential electricity prices vs. time for 3 big investor-owned utilities (left) and 2 big municipal utilities (right). The IOU prices rise from 10-15 c/kWh in 2010 to 30-40 c/kWh in 2024. The municipal prices stay nearly flat, ending at 11-18 c/kWh in 2024.
I knew municipal utilities generally provide lower electricity prices than investor-owned monopoly utilities, but I had no idea the difference was *this stark* in California. No wonder CA electeds are pushing to make municipalization easier and cheaper.

How Trump and His Advisers Miscalculated Iran’s Response to War
Trump didn't miscalculate. He didn't CALCULATE.
Experts, processes, meetings exist to analyze these actions. Trump has abandoned them in favor of a ballroom in Mar A Lago.
He's fired or forced out experts & doesn't listen to the ones remaining.

Time to sue to stop the war. Trump has no more authority to wage war than to impose tariffs.
The Constitution gave Congress war authority. Absent congressional action, no war. not, war until Congress says stop.
Up to the Courts, again, to rein in the POTUS.

And doesn’t bother to even pretend this action isn’t a “war” under the constitution.

3) This war is unfounded. With no voting rep in Congress we’ll borrow more or divert our tax $s to this war and not the needs of the least powerful in DC.
If DC isn’t a state no more federal income taxes from us. Enough.

1) In DC families struggling with high electricity prices driven in part by rising nat gas prices will likely see impacts to domestic nat gas prices as ME supplies are constrained by war.
2) thousands of Washingtonians serve in the military risking their lives with no coherent justification

It’s easy to think the war in Iran is not important for DC. It is and I don’t support it.
The president must seek approval from Congress. Wars have consequences. Why?

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.
We mustn’t let this war do so.

While it is tempting to acquiesce when Trump illegally attacks a regime like Iran, allowing him to start wars anywhere is reckless & dangerous. What will stop him from invading Canada or Greenland next?
Ds & Rs in Congress must deny Trump the authority for war until he presents a case for it.

Here’s what I don’t understand. The illegal Trump tariffs were largely, ultimately paid by consumers. Importers added the fee which producers likely applied indirectly or directly to consumers.
So consumers should be suing to recover the tariffs not companies. Class action?

And the companies will seek refunds but they won’t refund those to customers who actually pad the tariffs. So they get a double bonus if high prices and the excess back.
