Killing the public research system is akin to plucking out eyes, and every other sensory organ a person has on a national scale. Preventing us all from seeing, etc. what is happening so we cannot make informed decisions. Horrid stuff.

So Aotearoa is walking blind into having a cyclone season. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but you need to tell your friends and family, f they’re undecided, that this is an existential election and voting for the current lot just isn’t an option. Even if they vote Labour, that’ll be enough.

Screenshot from the linked article, which reads:
“The cumulative record is damning. Over the course of little more than two years, the Luxon coalition has timed legislation to kill tribunal hearings mid-inquiry; introduced bills the day after losing in court; overridden the first-ever judicial enforcement of three decades of freshwater protection law; retroactively voided customary rights that had been lawfully recognised; reinstated a sentencing regime found to breach fundamental human rights guarantees; and legislated away a High Court ruling protecting sick and injured New Zealanders from unlawful government debt recovery.”

A useful piece, reminding us how NZ’s government has consistently failed to respect the judgments of the courts, and opted to legislate away the decisions they don’t like.

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.

The Luxon Govt has systematically undermined NZ efforts to cut climate pollution and reduce fossil fuel use. We now face an energy shock due to high dependence on fossil fuels and a cyclone (made worse by climate change). Time to change course.

Whatever happens, this is a deeply shameful episode in American history that will leave a permanent stain on the country.

Repeatedly vowing to commit war crimes against millions of innocent civilians is beyond the pale.

This is it. This is the point where anyone that still thinks the luxon govt is good for the economy is just an idiot. Every stat we have now shows us that we were better off under the previous govt and are worse off under this one. Wake up.

If the United States wants a ceasefire so bad they could just surrender

"Mum/Dad/Aunty/Uncle(over 50s), I want you to do the children a favor. You know things have been going rapidly downhill. Right & centralist led government austerity policy is making things worse. I want you to think about the next generation & consider voting Green in the upcoming election."

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

A few things Labour should be pointing out daily -

1. Nats cancelled our clean car scheme
2. Willis cancelled our electric propelled ferry
3. Nats cancelled Lake Onslow
4. Nats cancelled our public transport support
5. NZ1 rejected the diesel backup stock plan.

Instead MIA. Disappointing.

Side note: Funny how a years long global pandemic (global shutdown of everything) was expected to take 18months for our country to recover, but this govt gets a 10 year pass, over some fossil fuel nonsense, when we have the technology & resources to save ourselves right now…just the wrong leaders.

Watch: About 140,000 families to receive $50 payment to help with high fuel prices The boost is expected to cost about $373m and last no more than a year.

Well, this does nothing for folks without kids or are on a benefit.

Also importantly it does nothing about supply of fuel. Nor does it reduce demand on fuel. If anything, it makes demand worse.

ACT Party deputy and minister Brooke van Velden retires from politics The party's deputy and government minister will not be seeking re-election in November.

BVV's legacy:
-screwing over workers
-cancelling Fair Pay Agreements
-brought back 90-day trials
-stopped Uber drivers from being decently paid
-hurt working women by canning pay equity
-rolled back worker protections
-creating low-wage, low-protection labour market

NZ's former PM Jacinda Ardern & her Finance Minister Grant Robertson's legacy will stand up to the lens of history. Their competency was in results, whether economic, social or Covid pandemic management, which two Royal Commissions in NZ confirmed as among the best in the world

Side note: There was no energy crisis before the USA & Israel launched an illegal war on Iran and subsequently blew up fuel stores…oh and hundreds of innocent Iranian school girls. The USA & Israel did that, Iran is defending themselves any way they can, much like any other nation would. 🤷‍♀️

I am extremely nervous. In 2020 we had Jacinda Ardern who kept us safe from the worst effects of Covid. We have gone from the best PM in my lifetime to the worst, and a lot of people are going to struggle to survive #nzpol

A new study finds that US COVID deaths were undercounted by nearly 20%.

While COVID revisionists and antivaxxers are trying to con people into thinking governments did too much, the data says the opposite: Governments didn’t implement public health measures effectively enough to save more lives.
