Deadline averted, but uncertainty remains. The Iran ceasefire extension eases tensions, yet rising energy costs, weak consumer confidence and political instability at home are already hitting the UK night-time economy, with quieter venues, tighter margins and no clear end in sight.
The UK night time economy supports 2m+ jobs but remains in structural decline. Europe backs hospitality with lower VAT — the UK must act.
We’re calling for a targeted VAT cut to protect jobs and high streets.

What a day yesterday - Starmer looked uncomfortable under pressure in Parliament.
Today: early start with NTIA Australia on cross-territory work, team meeting updates, then Ather on mental health. UNESCO at midday, afternoon with Void Soundsystem & SIA Chair, then Global Brands, Ticketmaster & INA.
Working with Arts Council England & DCMS on electronic music funding and sector challenges, while SIA launches Martyn’s Law consultation. All amid political pressure on Starmer, rising US-Iran tensions, safety concerns, and Tube strikes disrupting a key trading week.
Should young people be drinking more?
Scott Galloway thinks so, booze providing a route to the connectivity current generations supposedly lack.

Thank Crunchie it’s Friday!! Big news from Westminster Magistrates’ Court on a landmark case tied to the Dec 2025 licensing review, major implications. Catching up with London Task Force, joining the Fan Led Review in Newport, meeting NACTSO on Martyn’s Law, and ending with NTIA Scotland.
Heaven case outcome exposes major flaws in the UK licensing system. Untested evidence can damage businesses before facts are clear. With Westminster’s CIA also under scrutiny, urgent reform is needed to ensure transparency, fairness, and evidence-led decisions. Read more: buff.ly/Wblgdlb

While Westminster debates defence and global conflicts, the UK’s night-time economy is being squeezed. Falling consumer spending, rising fuel costs, and policy shifts hit venues first. With uncertainty and elections looming, nightlife faces rising costs, lower footfall, and little government clarity
Late one speaking at the Responsible Hospitality Conference in Nashville — gutted not to be there, but great discussions.
Busy day in London: Jamr, DWP on Martyn’s Law, XRave, Unlocked, students at Hippodrome, Fabric, then Red Bull Studios.
More to come
Great Telegraph piece on Labour’s “holy trinity” — Starmer, Rayner, Burnham. Not unity, but pressure. Starmer leads but is on the defensive, Rayner agitates from within, Burnham waits outside. A party already eyeing succession. This trinity looks anything but stable.
