Unsolicited writing advice, no. 132678:
You don't need to write every day: you just need to keep your imagination alight. Feed it with books, with art, with films and theatre. That way it will always be ready when you need it.

I saw Lily Savage at an AIDS benefit in Cardiff where she absolutely demolished everyone in the first two rows methodically one after the other! It was funny, awe-inspiring and terrifying and I never sit anywhere near the front now at anything (apart from poetry nights, they’re usually okay)! 😀

‘Life comes at you in waves, sometimes they carry you to new shores, sometimes you risk drowning in the flood. Life is the rhythm of all three together, it is the beat, the pulse, the wave that brings you to this moment.’

A postcard artwork based on the novel ‘The Call of the Wild’ by Jack London (first published 1903). Read in Dutch translation: ‘De roep van de wildernis’. Recently I found a sketch that I made in 1986, representing a typical flat Dutch landscape. That same year I read ‘The Call of the Wild’, situated in Yukon, a wild part of western Canada. To me brought a direct longing for mountains (born and raised in the Netherlands I wasn’t used to higher levels). In 1989 I got the opportunity to go to Alaska, my first contact with similar areas. During the years some more were to follow. In my contribution I use the 2026 WBN motto: the mountains keep on calling. The vowels already left, they couldn’t wait. By Frans Baake
