You've got this!
I'm doing my first 50k challenge for November. New challenges can be intimidating, but they're also exciting. I've prepped a lot the last few weeks. Now, I'm ready to dive in.
Fall leaves in the woods
It's November! Anyone doing a writing challenge this month or through the end of the year?

A vanilla by itself is solid too. Sometimes for the holidays, I buy beans and make ice cream from scratch. Vanilla deserves more credit.
I have asked myself that many times, as I have struggled to be more human. Until I realized, it is the struggle itself that is most important. We must strive to be more than we are, Lal. It does not matter that we will never reach our ultimate goal. The effort yields its own rewards. Quite from Data on Star Trek
Happy #startrekday ! This quote feels pretty relevant. We never know whether any of our efforts—personal, professional, or in our writing will yield results. But they aren't the point.
It's about dreaming, pushing yourself, and learning.
Keep growing! ✨️

I took some time away from social media. It was great. I got to focus more on my writing, connect with my community, and travel.

What have you been up to?

Hey writers,
Let's talk story/plot structure.
There a so many different names and lots of similarities between them.
Do you have a favorite? Why do you like it or how is it helpful to you?
Do you use it with fidelity or break the mold?

Don't forget to hydrate!
So music helped you get in touch with the feelings in a scene. I get that. Cool.
I think music is distracting too, all sound really. That's why I just used the noise-canceling option on my headphones. I marvel at the idea that people can listen and write. Sounds completely wild to me.
I haven't gone to one yet, but I'd like to. Luckily, there are 3 in my area. I think I'm going to try each and see which is the best fit. But I think mostly, I'd like to make writer friends, so it would be nice if there were some attendees similar in age. We'll see.
Was it good? I read For the Wolf and For the Throne. I think I like the first one more than a lot of people. Adding Foxglove King to my TBR. 📚
Happy birthday!!
My friend is a writing professor. He says it's important to know the rules, but every single one of them can be broken. In the end, it's art. The rules help us build common understanding in language and define strong writing. But your unique style may include purposefully defying convention.
New Haven pizza! I've only had it once, but I won't fight you on it's merits. 🍕
Nice. Is your writing group helpful?
I'm boring. I use noise canceling headphones often without any music at all.

Hey writers,
What's on your playlist these days?
Do you have specific music you listen to when you're writing?
Or are you more mercurial, changing your music to suit your mood, scenes your writing, or even the weather outside?

murmured, etc. There a lots of options. But at the same time, sometimes softly is the right choice.
Don't banish adverbs, just examine their use closely and replace them when it feels right.
I think the advice is more about pushing you to use strong descriptive language. Instead of deleting your adverbs, look at your sentences and see if you can replace them with other words.
For example, instead of saying he said something softly, you could say he whispered, used a hushed voice,

Re: Describe a character from your #wip using junk food.
My MMC starts off abrasive and scary, so he's probably sour gummy worms.
By the end of the story, much of his rough exterior has been removed and his motivations are clear. He's resilient and sweet like a gummy bear.
Junk food pictures. Gummy bears. Chips. Popcorn. M&ms or smarties
Hey writers,
Let's have a little fun for #wipwednesday
Describe a character in your #wip with a junk food
Bonus points:
Use 2 junk foods to describe how they transform (or don't) during the story

I've been enjoying Monster recently. Parasyte is another favorite of mine.
Love that idea. Let us know how it goes.

Hey writers,
Do you participate in a writing group either virtually or in person?
What platform do you use?
How did you connect with other writers?

I've used the antonyms the same way. Sometimes I can't think of the word, but I know what it isn't.
Agree. Word choices can add so much to our writing.
Repost of text that says, "Hey writers, up for a little fun? Prose Challenge. Using the image below as inspiration write something. It can be poetry, narrative, or a description. Just keep to one post, so limit 300 characters." Image shows a foggy sce e with a man walking up to a large alien-like figure.
Thought I knew this world
its strangeness, its quirks
Thought I knew what was
what I, you, we are
Not everything of course
Worlds have mysteries
but a grasp on things
enough understanding
I was mistaken
Standing in shadow
I see much more now
and also less of
what I thought I knew
