I plan to work closely with dieticians and create realistic & comparable diet plans that focus on quality of life without being overly restrictive. I plan to use evidence based pop press articles as they are easier to understand. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
This is such an interesting read! It is so true, patients are always asking for caffine. We restrict during inpatient stays then discharge them to drink caffine independently. We should dissect a patients diet and find alternatives rather than force feed the textbook diet #beh353
Yum!! I would happily give you my leftover cranberry sauce. I get most of my vitamin C during dessert with key lime pie lol! Happy Thanksgiving, thankful for you :)
After taking this course I learned how easily people are swayed by popular press articles. Now I know to make sure they're peer reviewed and hold scientific backing & can be cross-verified with other sources rather than word of mouth!! @beh353.bsky.social
100%! We often forget, especially if we have the means, that not everyone else does. Fed is best, moderation is key. @beh353.bsky.social
Especially when caring for children it is important not to demonize and restrict foods. Nothing is good for you without moderation and discipline. @beh353.bsky.social
I plan to work as PA with medically complex pediatric patients, many of which have seizure disorders. Attached is an article that goes over the Keto diet which I would provide for the parents goes over coping, meals & pros/cons! www.verywellhealth.com/ketogenic-di... @beh353.bsky.social
In times like this it is important to find budget friendly meals and recognize that the affordable options are often processed. The $6 a day once offered by SNAP will not produce protein and produce packed meals. Fed is best. @beh353.bsky.social
This reminds me of the Subway story and how the headlines miss the multiple mental and lifestyle changes associated with losing weight. @beh353.bsky.social
After reading Tom's story, it is important to remember that even when a person loses the weight they still feel the affects of former obesity. With my patients I will approach weight sensitively as there is always the fear of gaining it back. @beh353.bsky.social
Don't let greasy food be the killer. Air-fried and grilled reheats better anyways!! @beh353.bsky.social
Yes!! Diet soda is equally as harmful regular soda. Artifical sweeteners are also linked to cancer. Thank goodness you're so sweet you don't need diet! @beh353.bsky.social
I really appreciated that James Corden said that when we are trying to encourage others on what to eat we should watch what comes out of ours. I will take this with me and approach weight management sensitively and be mindful of how hard it truly is. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
OMG! so true!! It is always important to tell your doctors about the vitamins and supplements you take as they can cause med interactions! @beh353.bsky.social
Pasta is a shelf-stable versatile food that is a good staple if you don't have access produce and proteins constantly. When facing barriers it is important to keep a base like pasta. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
I feel growing up I was unable to store and prepare plentiful food which created barriers. With no way to store produce or prepare meat safely we resorted to unhealthy shelf snacks. @beh353.bsky.social
This is so important. The craze about non-iodized salt has created a large iodine deficiency in the United States! @beh353.bsky.social
These interactions between the minerals in these would make these amazing! #growingbigandstrong @beh353.bsky.social
During this week I learned that you need vitamin D to absorb calcium. This article talks about it, I'll take fish oil next time I take calcium! @beh353.bsky.social www.bonehealthandosteoporosis.org/patients/tre...
We often forget that protein is not only in animal products and that being vegan does not have to mean a protein deficiency. These are some amazing alternatives I'll stay mindful of! @beh353.bsky.social
Yum! I love alternatives to coffee. We should try some of these out, perhaps a warm green tea. Yum!
www.houstonmethodist.org/blog/article... This is a link to an article I would share with a patient. They use expert opinions and studies, while making it easy to digest. The Houston Methodist is also a reliable source that conducts great research. @beh353.bsky.social
What a good find! I love love love when multiple classes we take connect like this. Understanding nutrition is understand the body. We should try some of these out and chat about this soon! #beh353
I love this take, people often forget that cutting out ALL sugars is fatal and impossible. A completely sugar free diet is boring & unhealthy. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
I know that the keto diet is beneficial to many people who suffer seizures, I'm beginning to wonder if these people face the same harmful effects of the keto diet as someone who does it for their 'health'. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
So interesting to see how impactful one cup of beans can truly be. Only 12 weeks and your heart health is already greatly improving. Incredible. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I usually have a bowl with chicken & rice once a week. I could make it with quinoa, chickpeas, chicken, lentils, feta, carrots and cucumbers. I could also have some frozen pineapple and straberries for dessert. to really hit all the main groups and fulfill my nutritional needs. @beh353.bsky.social
