I found my pizza hot pocket in the freezer. I knew it wasn't a healthy food, but surprised me there's complex ingredients such as mechanically separated chicken, L-cystine hydrochloride, etc. I'll consume unprocessed food instead of ultra processed food in the future. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

These fruits would be a good way to get in extra protein if you didn't have something like meat. This would be a healthier way than using some of the ultraprocessed protein sources that have become so popular. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I learned that even foods like these veggie burgers that would probably be considered healthy can be ultra processed. Going forward I'll try to be aware of how much of stuff like this I eat and try to stick to unprocessed versions like regular meat. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I have always been a fan of milk!!!! I want to find ways to encourage my family members to drink more milk. Maybe sharing how nutritionally beneficial it is and learning how we access it will help. TAKE A PEAK:)

Hi! I agree that Tom’s story really shows how realistic habits can be more beneficial than other harsher diets. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

What really stood out to me from Tom Carroll’s story is how small changes can lead to major results. When working with future clients I would try to help them build realistic plans that focus on consistency rather than extreme diets that could possibly be unhealthy. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I relate to him in this way. I also have felt that what those around me are eating has caused a barrier in my efforts to eat healthier foods. Often, without the right support, a challenge like weight loss can make it seem like life has its odds against you. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Exactly! When food becomes wrapped in stress and judgment, our brain stops thinking clearly and regresses to old habits. Maybe the real work isn't teaching nutrition, but helping quiet the mental noise first! Automating meals could work too, if they want to just jump in.

Something that impacted me about Tom's story is that the words he heard in a doctor's office were so sharp that it made him vow to not return. It makes me wonder how many other people must be out there with the same experience. In healthcare it's unacceptable + dangerous. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Episode 233 recognizes that there is no clear definition of what “low carb” means, which leads to confusion. It states, “The initial weight loss is due to the loss of glycogen and water, but balance, consistency, and sustainability are key.” @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

That is a good connection—social settings do play a big part in helping or hindering dietary changes. Your point about friends/family eating habits as a potential hindrance is true, and that illustrates the importance of planning for social settings as well. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Tom’s tale reminded me that, for behavior change, “perfect” isn’t required, but “repeatable” is. His daily routine of eating a salad from Chick-fil-A illustrates the value of reducing decision fatigue. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Adding whole grains to your diet are an easy way to add fiber. Not only do they regulate help regulate cholesterol levels, but also help to regulate blood sugar as well! Fiber is truly a great addition to any diet, as it also makes you more full and satisfied with meals.

I found that eating similarly to Tom, where I found "healthy" foods that I could eat consistently everday is when I experienced the most progress with my diet. It's not stressful when its something very accessible and still satiating. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I agree! However, we have to consider the patient and the severity of the case. Tom's healthcare provider had been too blunt, making him reluctant to talk to healthcare providers. But what if the patient is unable to read between the lines or refuses to accept reality?

Tom's Carroll's story really defines what "consistency" means in dieting to me. Tom found himself struggling with alternating periods of eating really well and then falling back into bad habits. When he found what "worked" for him it become much easier. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Such an important reminder of how much we rely on farmers every day. As future healthcare professionals, recognizing where our food comes from and supporting sustainable agriculture is key to improving public health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Tom Carroll’s story showed me weight loss isn’t just about knowing what to do. It’s about behaviour and consistency. His focus on small changes stood out. As a future healthcare professional, I’ll meet patients where they are and build realistic plans with them. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Tom Carroll’s story showed me that consistency matters more than a “perfect” diet. His daily Chick-fil-A salad made healthy eating simple and sustainable. As a future clinician, I’d focus on small, realistic habits clients can maintain long-term, @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Tom’s story showed how one negative provider interaction led him to avoid care. It changed my perspective on how important empathy is. As a future provider, I will use supportive, nonjudgmental communication to build trust and better support behavior change. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I agree that one negative interaction can really push patients away from care. Tom’s story highlights how important empathy and communication are. Creating a supportive environment can make a huge difference in whether patients stay engaged with their health. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This is so important! Negative experiences can really impact someone’s willingness to seek care, so leading with empathy and clear communication makes such a difference. I love that you’re already thinking about how you want to show up for your future patients! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This article demonstrates that nutrition is more complex than what meets the eye. By adjusting our perspective and patterns, you are able to develop a healthier mind & you. Long-term habits determine what we created to be an ideal "balance and realistic" meals. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

A lot of my best memories are tied to the meals my mom prepares for us. She used to be a chef and she's my mom haha.. so I always loved her food. It reminds me that eating well is about balance and enjoying those meals with the ones you love rather than full restriction. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I totally AGREE with you! A part of someone weight loss journey is their mental state. This does really show that our healthcare system/professionals need to put more consideration into our patients' feelings. If not, this can leave scars like it did with Tom. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I love this post because so many people talk about different procedures they can do or skincare products that can increase collagen, but the most important is always through diet and whole foods. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
