The 55th NSEA Delegate Assembly has adjourned Sine Die. Thank you to every delegate who traveled from across Nevada to help move our union, our profession, and our movement forward. The Assembly may be over. The movement isn’t.
We’d like to thank Attorney General @aarondfordnv.bsky.social for speaking to the NSEA delegates at our Delegate Assembly in Sparks, NV. AG Ford has demonstrated through both his record and lived experience that he’ll be the Governor to help deliver for Nevada’s students, educators, and families.
And Governor Joe Lombardo has stood by in full support of trump's wrecking ball to public education.
President Dawn Etcheverry spent Read Across America Day with students JT McWilliams Elementary School. She read "Recess at 20 Below" by fellow NEA Member (now retired) Cindy Lou Aillaud, a fun and engaging book about how students in Alaska make the most of recess even in freezing temperatures.

This morning, NSEA spoke at the Interim Education Committee to deliver one message: Seriously, Pass The Plan #NVLeg
Because education funding was effectively kept flat last session, with just a two-dollar per-pupil increase, districts across Nevada are struggling with millions in deficits.
On Capitol Hill today, NSEA met with our federal delegation to defend public education and protect students. We opposed dismantling the Department of Education and raised concerns about ICE and DHS actions impacting our schools. Accountability, civil rights, and student safety must come first.
“It's the unknown that causes all the anxiety. I implore the district to be transparent about these things and about what they're asking from our administrators and why we're spending the money that we're spending this way.” Heckler said.
@neasn.bsky.social President Jeremy Heckler said uncertainty surrounding surplus decisions and district finances is weighing heavily on teachers. “It's not just the surplus part, but it's like, well, what if I don't get picked up in the surplus?” Heckler said.
Leadership requires moral clarity, especially when children are being harmed and public schools are disrupted by fear and intimidation. Lombardo’s refusal to say anything of substance is not neutrality. It is abdication.

This morning, we provided public comment at the Joint Interim Committee on Revenue. We reminded the #NVLeg that our students and schools cannot afford continued inaction on revenue. Our students and educators need a Legislature willing to act on the work it has already commissioned and reviewed.

While we appreciate Governor Lombardo giving @nsea.bsky.social credit for helping to kill the #HollywoodHandout, we think he should place more blame on Jeremy Aguero, an unregistered lobbyist, who clearly didn't lobby hard enough behind the scenes to discredit the non-partisan fiscal staff. #NVLeg
Sadly, Governor Lombardo is offended that we'd prefer public money to go into public education. His state is ranked 48th in per pupil funding with the largest class sizes in the nation. Education is economic development, and it's a better investment than hollywood movie studios. #NVleg
