"La Rue Hatch, though, is unafraid of going to war over important principles—such as the #HollywoodHandout bill —and that appears to be a rarer trait in this day and age, when politicians either resort to Trump-like behaviors (Devon Reese) or engage in performative, selective outrage (Alexis Hill)."
While we appreciate Governor Lombardo giving @nsea.bsky.social credit for helping to kill the #HollywoodHandout, we think he should place more blame on Jeremy Aguero, an unregistered lobbyist, who clearly didn't lobby hard enough behind the scenes to discredit the non-partisan fiscal staff. #NVLeg
Mark Wahlberg hates that the #HollywoodHandout wasn’t passed; thinks it’s a crime we killed it. Please google “Mark Wahlberg hate crime” for more information.
This is basically the best picture to describe the coalition that just killed the #HollywoodHandout. #NVLeg
The Nevada Current confirming that Jeremy was around the building pushing the #HollywoodHandout. I updated my complaint to the Legislative Counsel Bureau this morning. From stadiums to studios, Jeremy just doesn't think the rules apply to him. #NVLeg
Tonight, the Nevada Senate stopped the $1.8 billion #HollywoodHandout! The message was clear that we must put Nevadans over billion-dollar corporations. Thank you to all the legislators who voted NO on #AB5 #NVLeg
Statement: The #HollywoodHandout has failed to pass. #NVLeg
🚨 Unregistered Lobbyist Alert 🚨
Jeremy Aguero is once again wandering around the building lobbying lawmakers on the #HollywoodHandout without registering as a lobbyist.
We also know UNR President Brian Sandoval is doing the same thing.
Does anyone know why they don't have to register? #NVLeg
@jhughjackson.bsky.social spells out the reality of the film subsidy scheme. And @aprilcore.bsky.social gives us the full update on this troubling bill that's a #HollywoodHandout.

NSEA Member and second grade teacher Maggie Babb is speaking at the #NVLeg and why educators oppose the #HollywoodHandout
🚨🚨 NEVADANS!!! Call this committee to voice your opposition to the #HollywoodHandout!!
Nevadans are sick and tire of giving tax breaks to billion dollar companies run by billionaires!!
Call your state Senator and urge them to VOTE NO!
This bill will send NV off a fiscal cliff by 2030!
After the Assembly passed the #HollywoodHandout, the fate of film tax credits lies in the hands of the Senate. Call into the Senate Jobs & Economy Committee to urge them to vote NO on #AB5 using (888) 475-4499, meeting ID 87424207951, then press #. #NVLeg
If you’re one of the many Nevada students forced to live in a culture of fear on campus, hoping for leaders to fight for common-sense gun reform, you’ll have to settle for a ticket at the box office. Because instead of using their power to protect students in classrooms, polling locations and gyms, Nevada Democrats and Governor Joe Lombardo spent their summer vacation with billion-dollar studio executives — handing them the director’s chair for a special session, while students were written out of the script.
Great read from our friend Imer on the #HollywoodHandout that Lombardo is trying to push through in an emergency session (cause film tax credits scream emergency).

The first thing I'm doing after this #HollywoodHandout hearing is calling the chair of the NVDems. Can't remember who it is, but she's going to be very mad at the Jobs and Economy Committee Chair siding with wealthy Hollywood executives and billion-dollar companies during this hearing. #NVLeg
The state of Nevada is just going to lose $1.65B if they pass the #HollywoodHandout... why would the Assembly let the public comment about how that's a bad idea? #NVLeg
The #HollywoodHandout hearing has begun. You can watch here; however, testimony can only be given IN PERSON as the Assembly has shut the phones off and will not allow telephonic testimony #NVLeg www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/RE...

Georgia has first-hand experience with how corporate studios have left them high and dry after extracting as much value as possible. After Disney left thousands unemployed, Rep. Lim tells Nevada not to fall for the #HollywoodHandout. Read more here: bit.ly/4qy1oKJ
Hard not to contrast the demolition of the WH for a ballroom with the #HollywoodHandout for executives. A $250M ballroom. A $1.65B tax break. It's clear who is being heard and who is being ignored. Nevadans and Americans deserve investments in schools, housing, and healthcare, not vanity projects.
If she would like some additional experience working with the Governor's Office of Economic, she could read the GOED report that shows her #HollywoodHandout bill is a fiscally reckless (and politically indefensible) corporate tax break for the wealthy disguised as "economic diversification"
No corporate kings. Say no to the #HollywoodHandout.
Wow did she just come out against the #HollywoodHandout!?
“There are so many other needs in this state. So many other needs. And there are so many cuts coming down from the federal government that are gonna impact families, but yet again, we’re gonna to have to find money…”

Looks like the Senate is headed for a private screening with public money.
$1.65 billion is at stake and the Senate is ready to vote on the #HollywoodHandout without a hearing, work session, or public input.
This deal was bad before. It’s a bigger flip now. #NVLeg
At around midnight, the Senate apparently suspended enough rules to prevent a public hearing on the #HollywoodHandout. The bill, which gives away $1.65B in taxpayer money, was moved to the general file to be voted on without allowing any public comment or input. Quite the midnight matinee. #NVLeg
Now Playing: The Terrible Twos
$2 for students...$2.2 billion for Hollywood.

#HollywoodHandout
It's officially the $2 Session...The #NVLeg is likely to move onto their other 'priorities' which means the #HollywoodHandout. Keep those letters coming! They cannot keep prioritizing corporate tax breaks over our kids’ futures. More handouts for studios mean less funding for education.
Nevada's depressing economic outlook underscores exactly why Nevada lawmakers must #PassThePlan to fully fund our public schools and reject giveaways that divert public dollars to private interests like Hollywood. We can’t afford handouts to giant corporations. #HollywoodHandout
NSEA's full comments from today's #HollywoodHandout hearing.
⚠️ Warning, SB220 is Rated F for Failing priorities, including a poor use of public money while Nevada ranks 48th in per-pupil funding with the largest class sizes and highest educator vacancies in the country. #SchoolsOverStudios #NVLeg
Oh, great so only an $860M loss for the state over 18 years. #HollywoodHandout #NVLeg
Since the #NVLeg is hearing the *second* #HollywoodHandout bill this session (a day after hearing from the Commission on School Funding about how we're $4099 behind the national average in per pupil funding) let's all revisit my silent film. #PassThePlan
