Millions of American voters wanted to be villains. They came to believe it’s the key to success, while goodness is weak, woke, loser stuff, done only to signal.
Offered the option of unvarnished villainy, they enthusiastically took it. Seeing others suffer more made them feel big.
And here we are.

BREAKING: The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.
It feels like it's wrong to stop talking about how horrifying everything is but it also feels like there's nothing left to say
(the actual worst take of the year was Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics The Right Way but we already recorded a whole episode about that)
"Surely it doesn't need to be said that Paul Dano is one of our greatest actors. Anyone who doesn't get that doesn't know what acting is. He's also a brilliant director and writer, a very snappy dresser, and a gigantic mensch." --Tony Kushner
4 panel comic Panel 1: Red Guy looking way way too happy yells “Hey Guys! Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” Blue Guy next to him calmly says “Shhh” Panel 2: Blue Guy tenderly puts his arms around Red Guy and says “You don’t have to do this” Panel 3: Blue Guy still holds Red Guy tightly and repeats “You don’t have to do this every year”. Red Guy begins to break. Panel 4: Red Guy dissolves into Blue Guy’s embrace, sobbing. He finally feels the weight of Christmas Discourse lifting from his shoulders. He is finally free.
i’m setting you free. i’m releasing you from the discourse

a bearded Tatsuya Nakadai in Harakiri on the left side of the frame, seen through the ribs of a parasol
closeup on an older Tatsuya Nakadai in Heat Wave, face slightly turned (almost in profile but not quite) with a colorful stained glass window behind him
young evilly grinning Tatsuya Nakadai in Yojimbo, to the left of a window belching flames into the top of the frame
gorgeous closeup on Tatsuya Nakadai in Sword of Doom wearing a ronin hat, a wide-brimmed hat made of bamboo with a chin strap, the light filtering through it onto his face.
hearing reports out of Japan that Tatsuya Nakadai has passed away at 92. RIP to a legit legend.

The full text of Governor Mill’s statement: “I have spent my career – as a District Attorney, as Attorney General, and now as Governor – standing up for the rule of law in Maine and America. To me, that is fundamentally what is at stake here: the rule of law in our country. No President – Republican or Democrat – can withhold Federal funding authorized and appropriated by Congress and paid for by Maine taxpayers in an attempt to coerce someone into compliance with his will. It is a violation of our Constitution and of our laws, which I took an oath to uphold. Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by his Administration, but we won’t be the last. Today, the President of the United States has targeted one particular group on one particular issue which Maine law has addressed. But you must ask yourself: who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you? Will it be because of your race or your

Bravo to Governor Mills of Maine! Proud that my father was a State of Mainer, and wish he were alive to hear her (he’s been gone for 39 years).
Her third paragraph is the crux for me, and echoes Martin Niemöller’s famous “First they came…” maxim.
They need him to be a genius because they cannot handle what it means for them to be tricked by a fool.
The committee on Science, Space, and Technology are collecting testimony of Federal employees fired in the past days. Please share with your colleagues and friends. The more testimony, the better we can argue against this injustice.

Modern Movies: "Okay, so this is an antihero but this is also PG-13, so you can't kill the villain unless he attacks you first, so I need you to turn your back to leave so he can try to stab you."
Silent Movies: "The villain has been disarmed so--"
