My first author paper is published in @narjournal.bsky.social , co-led with Satish Nandipati and Ambar Kachale.
In this work, we build on the implications of the unusual genetic code features of Blastocrithidia nonstop...

Our latest contribution is out! In this highly collaborative paper, we show that tRNAs with a 4-base-pair anticodon stem are surprisingly frequent across organisms. Our atomistic MD simulations reveal the role of the 5th base pair.

Thermus thermophilus forms two distinct type IV pili. Cryo-electron microscopy, mutagenesis, structural predictions and simulations reveal their structures, glycan flexibility, and a hypothetical model of pilus assembly.

There is an unplanned power outage in Prague 6. It appears that the servers of the Czech Science Foundation GACR (including #GRIS) are affected and therefore currently unreachable.
Our recent investigation of the constriction in the bacterial ribosomal tunnel is online. Unbiased all-atom MD simulations of the entire ribosome and PDB analysis show, how flexible the constriction is. The flexibility is modulated by short nascent polypetides.
🧬Submissions are still open for our DNA repair and human disease Collection, a cross-journal Collection, highlighting new research and methodological advances.

💡Since November 2025, @springernature.com has introduced "Articles in Press", an initiative giving authors earlier visibility without compromising the quality or integrity of the final publication. ⌛Faster access to accepted research! For more information:

Czech Science Foundation budget as a function of time.
Some thoughts on the chronic underfunding of the Czech Science Foundation. Much of this problem stems from the recent Ministry of Education’s sloppy implementation of funding for non-teaching staff at grammar schools.

The 14% success rate the main Czech funding scheme for fundamental research is simply a disaster.

Happy to take part in the workshop. Lots of inspiring discussions. The take-home message: there are many interesting research problems, but only some are truly important.
Day 1 of the winter semester. Good luck to all of us @vschtpraha.bsky.social.
At EMBL @events.embl.org , they know how to conclude a conference.

It's 93.
Come and chat on Thursday.

Hiking time with Hlouchova lab during our GACR project retreat in Jachymov. A lot of discussions on protein-RNA interactions under probiotic conditions🦠

🗣️ We are pleased to announce that our 2024 Annual Report is out and for the first time in English! ➡️ czexpats.org/en/about-us/...
Our first publication output within the Czech Science Foundation project (25-15428S) about the prebiotic role of peptides in the emergence of the #ribosome.
A scheme of chemico-biological evolution of protein-RNA interactions. It started about 4.5 billion years ago with prebiotic monomers, went through peptides, oligonucleotides, and simple complexes, reaching proteins and RNA at about 4-3.7 billion years ago.
New publication out on the evolution of protein-RNA interactions. Put together with Klára Hlouchová (@sciencecharles.bsky.social) during a lovely Czech spring.

To be fair, the organisers have diluted the poster panels over the days👏🏻 So visit the side hall as well, there are many great posters.
Poster is up and I've tried hard to match my t-shirt with the poster title. We're in the front hall, No. 24. Visit us, there's more air than around the posters in the side hall🫠

My temporary office at #EBSA in Rome.
My flight to Rome delayed by 12 hours. Saying goodbye to day 1 of the #EBSA conference and I'm hoping to make it for day 2!
The same poster but cut in halves vertically, so when rolled down it fits to a luggage.
A scientific poster about ribosome simulations. In a viridis colors scale from yellow through green and blue to dark violet.
Heading to #EBSA in Roma and packing my poster to a luggage. Not a fan of poster tubes 🫣

For Czech readers: The Prague administration has once again shown its incompetence - this time by failing to manage basic demographic data. As a result, young students are paying the price when trying to get into high schools. www.eduin.cz/clanky/nafou...
