1/ BRAKER4 hatched!
The Earth BioGenome Project is on track to sequence ~1.5M eukaryotic species. Every one needs a structural annotation. No Perl monolith was going to survive that. So we rewrote BRAKER from the ground up. github.com/Gaius-August...

Interested in the genetic secrets of your favorite plant?

A genome sequence might reveal them. We wrote down a workflow from DNA extraction & sequencing to genome sequence assembly & annotation. It includes a hands-on guide with example commands.

Very interesting idea. The spread of knowledge about anthocyanins probably leads to more papers naming them. I am afraid that a substantial proportion is also due to studies doing transcriptomics+metabolomics in the next plant species.

This is also the reason why we use everything connected to pigments frequently in our courses for students

Petunia hybrida has been bred into an incredible diversity of colors and patterns.

Most arise from mutations in the anthocyanin pathway or post-transcriptional gene silencing that turns pigment genes on and off 🧬🎨
