Everyone should have a home
Yet 17,308 human beings are now in emergency accommodation
Yet the CSO announced this week there were over 70,000 homes vacant which could be compulsory rented
This is a broken social contract
This is down to government policy
This is #DerelictIreland

Really interesting piece & good points about a lot of the assumptions made about intergenerational economics. And Brexit was a bucket of shite all round, glad we moved to Ireland years ago

We have the houses
We don't have the political will to tirn them into homes
Too much money to be made in speculation & hoarding

@judesherry.bsky.social & I collated this data for our 2024 report "This is #DerelictIreland. The Solutions."

Taking advantage of the 2 dry minutes we've had so far this year here in Ireland. Dog is happy with the overflowing stream onto the beach.

The information is there, but at least they're staggering in the right direction, slowly. Wonder how much the derelict house tax will be?

I was asked to share this video of a 84 year old grandmothers house in Graiguenamanagh co Kilkenny which flooded today. More flood relief is badly needed in Graiguenamanagh and many other areas. Over years Ministers have visited and made promises but not delivered.

Unless you stipulate that you'll have AT LEAST ONE HOOK on every public toilet door you should be denied planning permission.
I don't understand why so many Irish cafes etc don't have bloody hooks? It's winter, I have a coat, bag & an umbrella & I don't want to put any of it on a dirty toilet floor

My word. (Again.)

Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan: "At the end of the day, it's the choice of a person to make these images... technology is moving so fast... even if the law is changed there's no doubt about... the advances are far faster than law is able to respond..."

The moment the earliest known man-made fire was uncovered - BBC News Archaeologists in the UK have discovered the world's oldest evidence of humans lighting fires

This is fascinating stuff.
And I will say again that we should have statues for those unknown inventors of ancient times, in stead of certain politicians and rulers who we have to tear down again after a few generations... ;)

Most Irish people want clean water, not a nitrates derogation Has the Government ever asked the people of Ireland if they agree with pulling on the green jersey to convince Europe to give us another derogation?

"Our waters are crying out for a break from the pollution, Irish people [want] clean water, but our voices are drowned out in a world of political wrangling and vested interest.

[But] you can’t drink politics."

Our elderly dog isn't well, horrible decision to be taken soon. The younger dog has had 3 operations recently & is still recovering. The Cat caught a mouse & was inordinately pleased with herself. Think of you all in Ukraine every day

International Criminal Court to ditch Microsoft Office for European open source alternative | Euractiv The court will move its internal work environment to Open Desk, a German-developed open source software

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.
