Poultry farm density and proximity drive highly pathogenic avian influenza spread - Communications Biology A study using phylodynamics to investigate highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 spread in southwestern France in 2020 and 2021 demonstrates that a single introduction led to rapid spread, mainly in duck farms, with farm density driving transmission.

๐Ÿ“ข New paper out! Since Oct 2023, France has vaccinated ducks against HPAI. Outbreaks dropped sharply. We estimated 314โ€“756 outbreaks were expected, but saw 96โ€“99% fewer. Vaccination likely key, but other factors still to explore. doi.org/10.3201/eid3... @epidesa.bsky.social @inrae-france.bsky.social

Thrilled to share our work on the influence of wild boar density on the spread of African swine fever #ASF in northern Italy (Jan 2022 - Sep 2023).
Our model reproduced observed ASF dynamics and showed that wild boar density shaped the second ASF wave only.
