An โ€˜ordinaryโ€™ storm with extraordinary impacts: what made Wellingtonโ€™s deluge so intense? Analysis: The storm is part of an increasingly familiar pattern reminding us that our communities and infrastructure aren't yet prepared to cope with what a warmer, wilder future holds.

Auckland school run chaos leaves 'hundreds late' to class A principal of an Auckland school is frustrated that nothing has been done to fix the traffic chaos at one of the country's fastest growing suburbs.

CarBrain is alive & well! "We need 2 entries in and out of Scott Point because it would halve the traffic." #InducedDemand ๐Ÿคฏ The real problem is the closed walkway/cycleway so parents say: "You can't let a 5-year-old walk these streets cos construction's going on."

NZ has lined up with 'MAGA US states' on oil, former Marsden Point boss says While others are switching to renewables, we're "going down the 1980s path", David Keat says.

"Keat said that had two components - 100 percent renewable electricity generation and slowly electrifying the transport fleet.

"Most other countries in the world outside MAGA US states and New Zealand are doing that now, at pace. For some reason, New Zealand's going down the 1980s path."

How Paris beat the car Though chaotic, the cityโ€™s transition has become a global role model

โ€œThe cityโ€™s transition away from the car, tho fantastically chaotic, has become a global role model. Under mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social, Paris was โ€˜the most influential city in the worldโ€™ says Canadian urbanist Brent Toderian. Hidalgo, stepping down after 12 yrs, exulted: โ€˜The bike beat the car.โ€™โ€

One other thing, watching Jacinda in action, not an actor playing her but by crikey her with behind the scenes snippets never made it more obvious how much of a leadership vacuum we are in, Jacinda would never have failed us in a crisis, it should be complicity viewing #NZPol

PETITION: Solarise NZ to make fossil fuels history We can power our homes, transport and economy with clean energy and end our reliance on dirty fossil fuels.

Oil reserves last for weeks.

Solar panels last forย decades.

Itโ€™s time that we got serious with solar!

In Nov 2025 Chris Bishop removed the incentives that existed under the Clean Car Standard to encourage the import of fuel efficient cars and penalize gas guzzlers. This move cost Govt $264m. And increased NZ's fossil fuel use and emissions. Dumb and dumber

I mean, it was obvious the numbers were going to look like this, but it's still startling to look at them and be confronted by what an absolute fantasy this whole thing is.

People rushing to drop $50k on a new EV and commit to years of payments, insurance, registration, WOF, etc.

I'm trying to decide whether to replace the $7 kickstand feet on my "EV" or wait another month.

Cargo e-bikes would probably work for a lot more people than you'd think.

When cars kill, it's just the cost of doing business. When e-bikes get popular, suddenly we need strict ordinances to stop "accidents".

Being able to take my scooter on the bus absolutely crushes the travel duration - cutting the walk time down to almost nothing, so instead of 1hr 10 to get from one end of the city to the other, it'll take me just 40 minutes.

30 minutes of that 1hr 10 is just walking to and from the bus stops.

Even without insane and illegal wars, the thing about any dependency, including car dependency, is that once youโ€™re dependent, they can do whatever they want with the prices.

57.7% of NZers, 2.9 million people, can reach public transport within a 10-minute walk. Auckland hits 87.8%. The govt's new fuel subsidy targets 143,000 families. Free fares could reach 20x as many. NZ has the access. What's the argument against?

Iโ€™m sharing this because gatekeeping in the cycling community has to stop. If our collective goal is to get people out of cars, we cannot attack the exact tools that make a car-light lifestyle possible. E-cargo bikes eliminate excuses. Let people use the tool that works best for them.

I biked 2 months in New Zealand in my 20โ€™s. I took a car/bus through some of it. (Our plan exceeded our biking legs.) The land I biked I still feel with an intensity/intimacy that driving canโ€™t match. Read this article.
