Happy head direction cell day y’all!

On this day, 41 years ago, Jim Ranck recorded the first “HD cell” in his Brooklyn lab in 1984.

Jim shared the news with the world at SFN that year, showing a video of the cell’s firing on a TV he somehow acquired and brought to his poster… (1/3)

We're hiring! 🧠 We're looking for a postdoc to perform neuropixels recordings in mouse models of neurological disorders as part of a larger team that's testing out novel gene therapies here at UCL. Super exciting project, come join the team! tinyurl.com/2ykfy2um

Is there room for one more? 😁🙋🏼

My new setup is currently still in boxes, but here is an old photo from during my PhD of one of my recording rooms - complete with mess and conspiratorial tin foil

Fabio outlines important ideas and possibilities for creating a Systems Neuroscience for Citizens during his talk at the Crick

Stimulating talk by @fabiorod.bsky.social on Fri at our Crick/UCL Neuro Talk series on citizen-driven science and our responsibilities to ethical and community-led engagement! Something we should all be taking seriously and perhaps even trying to work into our grants...

Hi all!

I've finally made the trek over to BlueSky. The #neuroskyence community is already thriving and I'm looking forward to being a part of it!

I'm a postdoc in epilepsy at UCL, and in my past lives worked in spatial navigation/head direction cells in rats and studied medicine.
