Really enjoyed delivering an antiracism and decolonial workshop to colleagues on our faculty #EDI committee alongside @kaysoclearn.bsky.social. Lots of deeply thoughtful conversations around the impact of the current political climate & barriers to true inclusion by students & staff. #TeamStirling

Too kind! 🥰
Definitely worth coming along to hear @kaysoclearn.bsky.social
My students this term have been *passionate* in their rejection of generative AI. I think the wildfires have something to do with it – the environmental impact of data centers, the scarcity of water, the terrible losses they’re seeing. . . it makes the ‘abstract’ of the climate crisis very real.
Challenges normative (white, Western, liberal, rational etc) thinking about what it means to be human Disrupts ‘Cartesian binaries’ (mind/body and nature/culture split) Accepts that modern humans are mediated by technology, and as such differ from the humans that have gone before them Emphasises consideration of radical ethical approaches to techno-mediated lives, rather than denial or reversal of technological development (‘staying with the trouble’ - Haraway, 2016). Brings the body back in and uses creative practices to engage us differently Transforms pain to knowledge through a process of affirmative ethics.
Talking Spinoza and Affirmative Ethics in teaching in our workshop at ECQI @edinburghuni.bsky.social today!
How can we work differently in academia to create ‘joyful encounters’ rather than ‘sad passions?’
With a cameo from Marc Warren 😀😂

Interesting to see the argument that #patriarchy is a key cause in environmental degradation and effectiveness in #conservation of #biodiversity and that this extends to knowledge production as well. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

It was Thursday, the 12th of December, 2019 when I delivered the 8-minute talk reproduced in this post, titled, "Why I Say Decolonisation is Impossible." Its main invitation a call to think carefully about what worlds we build and what we are willing to settle for.

It’s not fair to call all 313 MPs who voted for the Rwanda bill horrible racists, some of them are merely moral vacuums willing to throw vulnerable asylum seekers under the bus to prolong what’s left of their short careers
So, this is what happens when you publicly criticise British government policy. Strange to see your own name in a headline Guardian article! But we go on. I meant every single word I said to the interviewer. www.theguardian.com/education/20...
