Are you a fan yet? Chaz Brenchley's Crater School books are a perfect recreation of the classic girls' boarding school tales such as the Chalet School series. There's just one twist: the school is on Mars! The first book in the series is Three Twins at the Crater School.

Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a lethal, pale-scaled serpent-dragon or wyrm lurking in woodland. It looks straight at you as its forked tongue flickers between open, sharp-toothed jaws.
The shuck moved too, and I shifted my feet to stay behind it. The great black shadow’s hackles bristled along its hunched neck and shoulders. I couldn’t see its head, but I could hear it was snarling. Strings of shining drool from its open jaws hit the leaf litter with a hiss.
Being behind the shuck did make it harder for me to see the bloodthirsty bitch’s next move. I’d caught a glimpse of her crooked fingers when she’d tried to attack me. There was something odd about her hands.
I took a quick sidestep to get a better look. ‘What are you holding?’
She quickly tucked her hands behind her back. ‘Come here and I’ll show you. And call off your dog.’
‘No chance,’ I told her. ‘Fuck off back to whoever sent you here. Tell them to leave my family alone.’
The shuck growled and shifted its coal-black bulk as she tried to move towards me.
‘Coward.’ Her laugh sent shivers down my spine again. ‘If you want me to leave, you’ll have to make me.’

Book extract reads:

“You are not in a position to negotiate, Asta.”
“Oh really?” The cloth tore between her fingers, and Olafur twitched. “I’m sorry, I’ve completely forgotten what you wanted me to say. I could say anything that comes into my head out there. How could you stop me, without gagging me? How would that look, a mute prisoner Goddess? Very powerful…”
She ripped the headscarf another inch, and Olafur lunged for it. “What do you want?”
“I want my nephew back.” He looked blank. “My brother’s son. Your people killed my brother, and you took Rhodan from the beach, with his mother. I want my people, all my people, brought back to me.”
“Women and children? You would defy me over a bunch of slaves?”
“They may be slaves to you, but my tribe is my family, and I swore to protect them. And for them, I would defy you to the ends of the earth. So, do we have a deal?”
His lips thinned. “I’ll see what I can do. I can’t promise anything. If you behave well… anything is possible.”

In near-future Australia, climate change has left much of the country way too hot for humans. The younger generation are furious. Why did older folks not do anything when they had the chance? Clearly the guilty should be punished. Generation Nemesis by Sean McMullen:
