I keep seeing the figure for children with long Covid misquoted. The 6 million figure originates from the CDC (In collaboration with NIH Recover) and isn’t a global figure, it’s 6 million children with long Covid just in the US alone. A very sobering thought: 🧵

Long Covid to cost OECD economies up to $135bn a year New research predicts impact of lower productivity and workers quitting because of long-term illness after Covid-19

And not just long covid as a condition itself - the lockdowns saw a lot of physical deconditioning of people in mid-to-later life which didn't just go away when things re-opened. These will have had long term impacts both on health and the ability to maintain employment

including by an ongoing pandemic that everyone has been convinced is mild.

The Inquiry recognised that reporting of HCW deaths under the RIDDOR Regulations for reporting occupational disease should be better.

Sadly it didn't address the failure to report occupational infections which don’t cause deaths but leave HCWs crippled with Long-COVID.

Importantly though, the Inquiry recognised that ventilation is only effective against ‘far-field’ transmission, but has no impact on other transmission routes such as, for example, close quarter care of infectious patients.
