This week's BBC coverage about fraudulent 'immigration advisers' has sparked concern across the sector. Our full statement can be found on our website, but we've broken it down for you. 🧵

The BBC’s claims on MVDAC-DVILR misuse do not reflect frontline reality. We see victim-survivors facing disbelief, delays, and barriers to safety. Misuse is the exception, not the norm.
With 92 organisations, we have published this statement today:

We are aware of the BBC’s investigation into individuals allegedly helping people fabricate LGBTQI+ asylum claims. Read the full statement on our website:

Serious concerns have been raised about “self-swab rape kits” and the potential harm of misleading survivors about evidence collection.
Well done to Rape Crisis for ongoing campaigning & leadership on this - read their full statement here:

Watch our Chair @kirstybrimelow.bsky.social explain to MPs why the government needs to focus on what's really causing delays in rape and sexual offence cases. The Bar knows operationally what works - and what doesn't - because barristers are in court every day.

These are the organisations supporting the call for action.
You can take active action to support #migrantwomen who are victims-survivors: write to your MP and ask them to raise these concerns with the Government.
With the support of over 50 organisations, we are calling on the Government to remove barriers that prevent migrant and vulnerable women to exercise their #humanrights.
No borders. No barriers. Just protection.

Division fuels harm.
Hostile narratives increase the risk of violence against women & girls - especially migrant women, who face added barriers to safety & justice.
We’re marching for rights, safety & solidarity.

JUSTICE joined over 30 charities supporting victims of violence against women and girls to call on the government to drop plans to restrict juries.
Survivors need a justice system they can trust - sidelining juries puts that at risk.

A powerful and deeply affecting interview from Charlotte Nichols.
It’s vital we listen to what she shares about the justice system.
“Undermining one of the few mechanisms for bringing diversity into decision making and reducing courtroom bias will not resolve the backlog or address the trauma survivors experience”
Cutting jury trials isn’t a solution - it risks fair justice.

Maintaining jury trials is an essential part of safeguarding justice, accountability and equality in the criminal justice system. We've joined over 30 VAWG organisations in writing to the government to warn that plans to significantly reduce jury trials will erode victims' access to justice ⬇️
We are glad to have joined with @rightsofwomen.bsky.social and 30+ other organisations to raise the alarm over the Government’s plan to restrict jury trials.
The plans won’t solve the court backlog and risk undermining access to justice for women and girls.

We welcome this coverage about our joint letter from the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector on the need to maintain jury trials.
The proposals carry such significant repercussions for women’s access to justice.
They demand a much wider debate.

We welcome Government’s plans for a free Independent Legal Advice service for adult survivors of rape, after years of campaigning for this vital provision to support greater access to justice.

The Lonely Alphabet of Brave, Anonymous Women
I’ve written in @irishtimes.com about women to whom we owe a great debt, but their names are never known. They fought for legal change, often at great personal cost, in anonymised cases - X, C, A, B, MZ, & many more.

What does the President's 'Re Y' judgment mean for the family courts? My analysis for @tbij.bsky.social tinyurl.com/mr36v98k
Thank you for speaking out so compellingly on this issue Charlotte. It was very brave and moving. Sending you all our solidarity and support.
This was the hardest speech I've ever made, speaking about my own experiences of our justice system in opposition to my own party's proposals on courts.
Very grateful for all of the gentle and kind responses, and hope I have given a voice to other survivors who feel as I do without my platform.
Every word of what Charlotte Nichols said in her speech against restrictions to jury trials is bang on.
She spoke today for many victims who feel that their voices have been erased and their experiences instrumentalised.
If you haven’t watched it, you must.
