During my recent depressive episode I received exceptional professional care. What makes the difference between good and poor care when you are unwell?

Just returning back from lunch with a lovely friend. She has sparked a creative conversation in me that I feel I need to write this afternoon. I don't want to be defined by my illness but I do want to share my experience in a beautiful way. I am going to settle down and get writing.

Living with a serious mental illness does not mean you are weak. You are in fact filled with tenacity and grit.

What does depression actually mean? It can be a death sentence for some. I want to raise awareness that it can be much more than a dip in the road, but an absolutely life changing event that puts you at direct risk.

enough for my spa day on Saturday. I literally cannot wait for a massage- my poor body so needs it and hopefully by the weekend any restlessness will have abated.

Right I am starting to feel very tired. Which is a very good sign for me and means episode is definitely concluding. I plan to spend the next few days in bed with some diazepam for rest and then hopefully this will ward off any depressive crash. And then hopefully I will be well

Just at the end of a mixed episode. As my thoughts slow down and my speech is steady (some words a little slurred from diazepam), I have processed some of my emotions and thoughts into a short video about mixed episodes for educational purposes and learning. Suicidality mentioned and a bit risque.

A crowd of protesters on a London street near Downing Street, with placards visible among the people. A red double-decker bus is in the background, and signs read messages like “Welfare Not Warfare” and “TRIBAL GENOCIDE”. Leafless trees and historic buildings line the street, under an overcast sky.

A densely packed protest scene in Westminster, with people of various ages holding signs including “TAX THE RICH” and “WELFARE NOT WARFARE”. Huge protest outside Downing Street for #WelfareNotWarfare against #DisabilityBenefits cuts. I’d love to show more photos but nearly everyone I know is so unsafe with the DWP that I don’t want to add someone’s pic in the crowd without their consent. The DWP is that terrifying.

What’s announced is appalling—and we’ll fight it with every spoon we’ve got.

But the biggest threats (like PIP 4+ & LCWRA changes) are far off for existing claimants and there is transitional protection .

We have time.

We have each other.

Please don’t do anything rash x

I feel a real pull at what to say when I feel so well and life is going well. I don't want to seem boastful about my recovery but equally I want to celebrate it. I know others have it much harder than me. But I am proud I am well and proud life is profoundly happy at the moment.

Really counting my blessings tonight. Had a really good couple of months where I feel really well. Think the bipolar group I have been going to has been transformative. Also very grateful for the support I receive from friends, family and professionals. I get how lucky I am.

Snow 🌨️ is falling. How exciting. Now just to make sure that my uninsulated overflow pipe doesn't freeze and stop my central heating from working as it does everytime it drops below zero.

Dear @bsky.app,

Could you please consider allowing locked accounts?

Many of us in the mental health, traumatised, and disabled communities have very good reasons for needing private accounts.

Without this option, a hierarchy emerges in who gets to access your space.

Thank you so very much,
Jay

My word of the day (and personal recommendation) is ‘snerdling’ (18th century): nestling cosily beneath the covers and holding off the day a little longer.

Morning.

I made a #MadSky feed for people migrating over from #MadTwitter to hopefully find one another. Currently only a feed based on those two hashtags plus #PDinTheBin and #TraumaNotPD

Can edit and add more hashtags, keywords and key users as we (hopefully?) grow

Search MadSky in the feeds to join
