Using Anaecypris hispanica 🐟 as a case study, we explored how integrating eDNA into species extinction risk metrics could shape conservation outcomes. We reinforced that eDNA isn’t about replacing traditional methods, but can offer new hope for species in areas where they were thought to be gone.

We found that a small tweak in eDNA protocols can change which locations show positive detections for endangered (rare) species, demonstrating that methodological choices in eDNA studies must be context-aware and carefully considered!
