When Connor Reilly died two years into retirement MI6 cleared his flat to the last broken pencil tip on a dusty windowsill.

Six months later, when his ex wife announced an impromptu jumble sale on the first warm Sunday of May, no one except Alexei was paying any attention.

I'm adopting ' those beans don't look healthy' as a general idiom.

I teach, so I can get plenty of use from it.

Last week's builders next door were classic rock all the way. This week's are big bold pop hits and impressive singalongs.

I need a hero! Etc.

Seeing as there are lots of introductions on here: my PhD research is looking at the material culture of Roman children, focussing on the site of Dura-Europos. Here are a couple of examples from the corpus of articulated bone dolls. I’m also looking at infant feeding bottles & terracotta toys.

Sacha! It's Meg from NMM. I literally just joined Bluesky today and was thinking this is just like old timey twitter when half the posts I saw were from Sacha about museums. I wasn't even looking for you - I was looking for all the museum peeps and you were top. How funny.

Been here five minutes after nearly two years off all social. Have already discovered an out-of-print book so interesting it's in my world of books trolley right now, and a bunch of forgotten history walking tours I'll book once I've made coffee.

Its lovely here. Might stay.

A parody of a Tory from Private Eye:
So I'm warming to Robert Jenrick. He has the vision and the haircut that could take us into 2025! He also makes a very good point about being proud of our Englishness. I myself am very proud about everything that is English
- well,
everything except the BBC (obviously!), the RNLI (helps immigrants), the National Trust (teaches us the wrong history), the RHS (same), the Proms (too European), the North (too depressing), London (full of You Know Whats), people who work from home (buy those Costa Coffees! young people (annoying), old people (a drain on the public purse), schools (too scary), theatres (too scary and leftie), universities (hotbeds of wokery), the courts (always complaining about lack of money), the army (ditto), the police (ditto) doctors and nurses (ditto ditto) and Peppa Pig

Private Eye hits it square on the nose again with their parody of a Tory ex-MP. These people hate so much more than they love.
