The truth is that as a man's real power grows and his knowledge widens, ever the way he can follow grows narrower until at last he chooses nothing, but does only and wholly what he must do.
-- A Wizard of Earthsea, Ursula K. Le Guin
Ged stood still a while, like one who has received great news and must enlarge his spirit to receive it.

Screenshot from 1960s Japanese movie Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. A serious-looking man in a suit is explaining his latest idea. Subtitle reads 'It may sound primitive and unscientific, but through the fairies, we could ask Mothra to help.'
The latest White House thinking on the Strait of Hormuz.
You've got to see it to bereave it
we used to have Steve Jobs, Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, Mike Pensions, Gary Literacy, Pete Socialsafetynet,
Yes. These books are a Whole Thing. The fan community speaks in terms of how many dozens of circumnavigations they've done (complete read throughs) and for anyone that does fb, the POB fan society is an absolute gem, the best thing there.
In vain may Heroes fight, and Patriots rave;

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

No but this is entirely correct
In related news, I wrote a couple of emails in bad French and now have a preliminary offer to spend a day in July sailing this Catalan Barque and now I have big boat-shaped stars in my eyes.
I've been trying out directing questions to humans instead of search engines. Did you know humans will share what they know if you ask? No stock images, ads, AI, paywalls. Just perfect gems of info and advice, given and received in a ritual of attention and care, as if by some ancient compact.
the chambers of my soul are all in crookedness!
Yes, I agree, a lot of my problems are outside my head too, but this idea of feeling ultimately and inevitably alone with the problems still rings familiar for me.
Overse added, “Just remember you’re not alone here.”
I never know what to say to that. I am actually alone in my head, and that’s where 90 plus percent of my problems are.

More than once I have faced the accumulated structures of my life and had to burn them down. I left a town, a job, relationships; I struck out again alone, uncertain, new.
Now I have dependents. I can't burn down the structure because there are other beings living in it.
So what can I burn?
Photo taken by me at the Fete Maritime de Douarnenez, France, 2024. Colorful small lateen, lug, and gaff sailing boats anchored in a calm harbour, surrounded with green hills, under cool pink skies, a morning light flooding the distance.
Like anyone, I can fall down a hole of self-recrimination in which I am sure I will spend my life alone, doing nothing worthwhile.
Then I ask: will this knowledge help me sail a lateen rig off the coast of France? Will it help fill my sketchbook with boats?
It will not, so it's irrelevant.

In the South China Sea a British convoy worth almost £1bn today is spotted by the French.
It should be a massacre.
Instead, Commodore Nathanial Dance is about to defeat a French battle squadron using some paint and the most overplayed hand in #navalHistory. /1 🧵
Moths are excellent pets as they ask for nothing and all you have to do to acquire lots of them is open a window and switch on seven lamps and put a classic early Leonard Cohen LP on at a pleasant volume.
Don't give anything an Emmy until it's as good as this.
Youngest bro often quotes a prof of his from long ago:
‘Shakespeare. Every time I re-read him it’s like he knows everything that’s happened to me since I read him last.’
It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.
You should've gone to NFT NYC 4 years ago. I could have run the Kobayashi Maru test non-stop for a month and not seen that many doomed enterprises.
