This was Jim presenting awards to a talented wee lass in 2002. Kim Little has gone on to become one of Scotland's greatest-ever players, and is still starring for Arsenal. This was when she was a member of the "Mintlaw Miracles".

I’ve done this tribute to Jim Strachan, the former sports editor of the “Evening Express”, who has died at 79. Jim spent 39 years in the role, covered all the Aberdeen triumphs in the 1980s, and was also an accomplished musician. Condolences to his family! www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/obituarie...
Get him impeached, get him out of the White House, and get him as far away from the nuclear codes as possible. I enjoyed “The Dead Zone” by Stephen King. But that was fiction. This is a real-life issue of whether anybody dares to stand up to a madman!
Alistair MacLean (1922–1987) – author of The Guns of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra, Where Eagles Dare, etc – was born #OTD, 21 April, 1922. A native #Gaelic speaker, he grew up near Inverness. @neildrysdale.bsky.social looks at MacLean’s remarkable life

I keep hearing that Aberdeen City Council should help fund a new Dons stadium away from Pittodrie. And how it will generate “a billion pounds” for the city over 50 years. The authority is facing huge financial challenges. Football shouldn’t be one of them! www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/opinion/6...
Is this what really happened in the Mandelson affair? 🤔
📺 "The Rhodesia Solution" from "Yes Minister" 😅😂🤣

Please do take five minutes to complain about this to the BBC (and it really does only take five minutes). And demand a reply. This is the big advantage of having a broadcaster funded in the way the BBC is funded. They are accountable to us and they have an obligation to explain themselves.
This sums up the madness of British politics at the moment. Excellent story from Justin Bowie, via Armando Iannucci! www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/...
This maybe wasn't what I wanted to see when I opened a proof copy of Stuart MacBride's new book, which arrived in the past today. But then I'm retiring just a few days after Stuart's latest "Blood, Rust and Steel" comes out on May 21. I ended up having a good laugh with the PR contact about it!
A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!
Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....
You may disagree, but if the heads of our military don’t trust Trump to be in the Situation Room because he’s erratic, unfit, or dangerous…
HE SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT!
Simple as that. 😎✨
Very normal stuff.
"Aides kept the president out of the room as they got minute-by-minute updates because they believed his impatience wouldn’t be helpful...
"At one point Trump mused he should award himself the nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor...

Eight children, aged between one and 14, were murdered today in Louisiana. Eight! And now the US administration is urging people to “pray for” the victims. Never once is gun control even mentioned. This is the 130th multiple-fatality shooting in the US this year - and it’s only April!
I enjoyed John Morton’s previous mockumentaries, but only laughed once (in six episodes) during “Twenty Twenty Six”. I don’t think it’s just the fact the World Cup is shaping up be to a disaster, but the problem of a very British comedy being relocated to the US. Sorry, it just didn’t work!
Veteran trade unionist Ron Webster asked me: “Why does Aberdeen have so many food banks? We should be ashamed that the oil revenue was wasted.” He was absolutely right. And his words are still as pertinent today! www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/past-time...
My painting STORMY WAVE
The grift of the grab!
I’m enjoying this book by Paul Fischer about Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. I think it tries too hard to be positive about Lucas - the other two are in a different class from him. But it’s still very entertaining!
New euphemism for "pure, unadulterated horseshit" just dropped
A little video of Deeside in spring. It’s only 32 seconds, but it’s refreshing!
If they’re only just noticing this, they haven’t been paying attention! Brexit came with a whole series of “impossible promises!”

I know plenty of people who didn't even bother making plans to go to the World Cup because of you-know-who. The head of one of the biggest supporters' groups in Scotland has said he can wait until the next World Cup in 2030. We can support the Scots more easily and more cheaply at home!
Tonight is the Jean Guild Award showcase of the excellent Old Edinburgh Club. Worth joining if only for online access to The Book of The Old Edinburgh Club, published since 1908
Wishing a happy retirement to Jamie Murray, who has announced he is bowing out of tennis at the age of 40.
The first British doubles player to rise to world No 1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion, said he was "excited to enter the real world".

We said cheerio to the pheasant who keeps popping down to our window every morning at breakfast. Ballater has been a treat, but the weather does change very quickly here. These last two pictures were taken three hours apart!
