Indeed. On the other hand, Oh, Mr Porter! was his foray into the documentary, as it turns out.

Hahaha. Yeah, we'll have our work cut out there, I fear. Ditto Will Hay.
I just checked - she made around 100 films beginning in the late 30s. Bloody hell. More prolific than I thought. These little character actors, like her, were the backbone of Brit Cinema. And so many of them! Wilfred Hyde-White is another of my favourites.
She was everywhere in the 60s and 70s. Always stole any scene she was in. Her reaction to Aphrodite at The Waterhole is priceless.
Ah, the great Irene Handl too. Flawless.
Where's the laugh emoji on Bluesky? Jesus. That level of incompetence must be intentional, surely? Somebody who hates their job pissing about at work? I'm going to be a lot more observant about this stuff going forward, simply for the lols.
I completely agree about the mislabelling - I've no idea why anyone could use the word "comedy" to describe To Walk Invisible. Anyone expecting a chuckle from the Brontes would be sorely bloody disappointed!
I'd totally forgotten about that! Good call. Thank you.
And when you get back, fuck right off again. Fucker.
Here, in the UK, I was amazed to find a treasure trove of classic cinema as part of Amazon Prime. I loathe Bezos, but.

I often think of this moment. And now more than ever. If you've never seen it, do.

The absolute master of paintings of night scenes. Gloriously evocative.
Back in 1985, she was extraordinary as Nicole Diver in a BBC adaptation of Tender Is The Night. Well worth finding.

Rewatching this for a timely reminder that the opioid crisis in the US was actually a homegrown affair, driven by unfettered corporate greed and corrupt officials.

Great interview. I loved the Candy Darling bio, so this is going straight into my basket. Thank you!

Thank you for this righteous anger. Succinct and indispensable.

I'll let her know. I'm sure she won't mind in the least bit. On the contrary, almost certainly. Being as striking as she is, she is no stranger to being snapped. She's not on bluesky, but I'll send her a screenshot. I'm sure she'll be amused, especially as she's Oz obsessed.
Wow! The redhead is my daughter. What are the chances? Bizarre!
So long, Marianne. Thanks for it all, you glorious girl.
