My perfect angel

I made the choice to learn about my kid’s special interests. By doing this, I was able to understand her, to understand what it was that drew her to her special interests. This allowed me to then suggest things that she might enjoy, helping her develop an interest in philosophy, and writing. #autism

As I reflect on how raising my kid has consumed every second of my life, & I was told to give up on her & see her as disabled, I was shamed for refusing to accept less for her so I could have career, told I was wasting my degrees. I feel so thankful I did not listen #asd #asdmom #autism

If parents learn in depth how autistic brains are wired, they will know the joy of a door being opened to a reality unknown to them! At the same time they will experience an indescribable and incurable heartbreak of seeing the needless cruelty of society towards Autistic people #asd #asdmom

Combining the science of how ASD brains & NT brains work with critical theory (which explores how neurotypical society is structured & functions) has been like breaking code of the safe in my kid’s mind where all her gifts are stored. #asd #autismmom #autism

Autistic kids& parents need to know how their brains work to understand why they struggle in neurotypical society, especially in school. Learning brain science with your kid also nurtures a close bond, they see you valuing learning about their brain & feel you value them. #asd #autismmom #autism

I did a masters of education because I had no choice, teachers were telling me my kid was a resistant learner & I was spoiling her. In 17 years of being her mom I had 0 support. I had to break all the rules a forge my own path. It made me & my kid smarter, stronger, fearless! #autismmom #autism #asd

It’s vital that parents become experts on their child’s sensory over-responsibly. Step 1 change your home to be in line with your child’s sensory needs. This is so they have a place to rest & recharge. Also it gives them a sense that they have a place in the world that is safe! #autism #asdparents

The more neurobiology research I read the more I realize that autistic brains are ADVANCED!! My kid is thriving because I have been teaching her critical discourse analysis, critical theory etc since she was 5! ASD kids brains are so advanced they need sophisticated education & socialization.

My friend is a huge history buff and she has a massive collection of photos from WWll with tons of photos of women soldiers, mostly Russian.

My kid struggles to read facial expressions, I noticed when we watch films she can read the lighting, etc & understand films more than most adults. She is not disabled, she has a magnificent brain!! ASD brains are ADVANCED! We just don’t know how to teach them. #asd #autismmom #autism #asdparents

Parenting an autistic child requires parents to reclaim their role as experts on their child. To do this requires embracing autistic time! #asd #autism #autismmom #asdparents

The current structure of society alienates parents from their children. Parenting an autistic child requires parents critically analyzing parenting, childhood & the systems in society that exclude and harm ASD kids. It’s a higher calling to parent an ASD child. #autismmom #autism #asd #asdparents

Autistic burnout happens to autistic children! We need to give our kids time to rest & heal, we need to change the pace of our lives! As they grow we need to teach them the language to explain how they are feeling & teach them skills to manage it as adults! #asd #autistucmom #autism #autismparents

He is promising to eliminate autistic kids. This is eugenics! I have a masters in education. I read the ALL the research myself. My kid is doing better than most NT kids. Give me ALL the autistic kids!! Parents have to decide: loyalty to their kids or lifetime servitude to systems of power.

The double empathy problem means my kid & I will always misunderstand each because we have brains wired to use different communication styles. As her mom it’s my job to go into her autistic reality and learn how to teach her EVERYTHING in ways that her brain understands. #asd #autismmom #autism

ASD kids have Sensory over responsivity, this means they sense the world differently than NT’s. In every moment my kid is experiencing reality differently than me. Light, sound, noise, touch, taste, everything is different. So we developed communication practices that centers her reality. #autismmom

This book changed our lives! It changed how I understand autism. I started asking different questions, finding new info & expanding my useful parenting strategies, ditching the ineffective ones & it enabled me to forgive myself for my parenting missteps. #autismmom #autism #asd #austimparents

when I decided to engage my kid in her autistic reality I earned her trust. Then we started building a bridge from her autistic reality to the neurotypical reality. Part of our bridge is she texts me meme’s or pics that represent she struggles when she is at school. #asd #autismmom #autismparents

Parents of an autistic child must decide: is their child disabled or a child born into a society that disabled them. To make this decision requires a bit of learning as this decision will set course parents will take as they embark on their autism adventure with their child! #asd #autismmom #autism

When correcting a ASD child for misbehaving or forgetting an important family rule, their brain is going to make them focus on the mistake, so how a child is corrected has to be communicated positive way or the child will relentlessly mentally criticize themself, leading to low self esteem. #autism

Brain research: anterior medial prefrontal cortex (mPGC) & left superior temporal gyrus (STG) activities more than NT kids brains when ASD kids make mistakes. So when a ASD makes a mistake or misbehaves, their brain is forcing them to keep thinking about it. Parents NEED to know this! #autismmom

We autism is referred to as an “epidemic” it dehumanizes autistic children. They become a problem to be managed then eliminated. My child is has a PERFECT brain. Once I learned how her brain worked I changed how I parented her. She is THRIVING in every way today! We need different types of brains!
