PNW rains have returned, hopefully soon orcas do too as it appeared the group was possibly heading out yesterday. Meanwhile, we revel in the grays who remain: Little Patch & Stardust plus others were seen this week.

SARA EISEN: I think it was a bit of a trap to ask Kevin Warsh about the election denial, to get him to disagree w/ President Trump. You know no Fed Chair is going to weigh in on politics like that
WARREN: Look, I asked him a fact. We need a Fed Chair who can assert reality. Kevin Warsh can't do it
"Benches aren’t just disappearing from large railroad stations, but also from subways, parks, plazas, sidewalks, and esplanades."
This is a huge problem, but it's weird to write such a long piece w/o mentioning William Whyte, author of Social Lives of Small Urban Spaces, who first raised the issue.
Good to see the Irish Times promoting cargo bikes as car alternatives. I'm somewhat down on the "economic" motivation, because fuck that: there's so much else going on, but these things need all the promotion they can get. For sure people need cars, but I can believe tha… https://paulca.com/posts/98
Luke Jerram’s inflatable earth ‘Gaia’ at night. Illuminated & reflected on the water as it floats on a lake.

We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.”

My 70 something parents use their e-bikes to go on 40 km rides with their friends.
E-bikes are life-extenders, leisure-extenders, and enjoyment-extenders for so many people.
It is not cheating to get more fun out of your day and ensure you have the oomph to come home at the end.
Underappreciated that Iran timed it's announcement for 20 minutes *before* close-of-markets just to piss off Trump.
The House did accept an amendment pushing the implementation off into 2027 and another that would exempt polystyrene coolers that are intended for reuse.
One of the rejected ones would have created a hotline to report violators of the law. That one failed 8-31.
And onto HB 25, a bill by Rep. Andy Josephson that would ban the use of polystyrene -- better known under the brand name Styrofoam.
I missed the amendment markup on it, but Republicans also made that painful with like 10 amendments.
🧵 The House is getting underway with what will almost assuredly be another painfully drawn-out floor session.
Bills on the agenda:
More amendments to HB 133, the payment of contracts
HB262, # of Superior Court Judges
HB 25, disposable food service ware

Rolling to the stones.
Trump was caught on hot mic discussing Trump Org business with Indonesia's president. Qatar paid $1.1M to his properties during term one. He never divested. The Constitution has a name for foreign payments to sitting presidents. It's in Article I. Look it up. #BoughtAndPaid
In 1909, the Globe ran a parody of car-centric policies By Alan Wirzbicki Globe Staff,Updated April 20, 2026, 5:26 p.m. While searching through the Globe’s archives recently, I ran across this list published in March 1909, purporting to be a new set of rules for pedestrians: It was, safe to assume, an unlabeled parody: the author, George Fitch, was “widely known as a humorist,” Rules are in a screenshot and include "Pedestrians must register and pay a $5 fee"
Thx Alan Wirzbicki at @bostonglobe.com for unearthing this early parody of the ridiculous hoops that car-centric retrofitting of cities has pushed on to anyone traveling outside of cars @tomflood.bsky.social

No Trump nominee should be confirmed.
These programs have reduced the recidivism rate -- the likelihood that people commit new crimes -- by half compared to the total prisoner population.
From 66% to 28%.
They estimate that, of the 650 people they've served, the changes have saved $8.5M in incarceration costs.

Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek) * ... @magyarpeterMP Until 31 May, the Orbán puppets may voluntarily step down from their positions. This applies to the President of Hungary, the President of the Curia, the President of the National Office for the Judiciary, the President of the Constitutional Court, and the Prosecutor General. On 12 April, the Hungarian people voted for a complete political transformation. If these officials do not step down voluntarily by 31 May, then - on the basis of the mandate received from millions of Hungarians — we will remove them from office.
Hungary’s Péter Magyar issues an ultimatum.
