Healthcare is a right.
You shouldn’t have to earn it.
It shouldn’t be dependent on employment or economic status.
It shouldn’t be something you have to fight for.
It shouldn’t be something that leaves you in debt for life.
Universal healthcare saves lives.

Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich.
So denser housing subsidizes lower density housing, & keeps taxes artificially low for the same low density home owners that ironically commonly protest against that higher density housing in their neighbourhood.
It’s not surprising that people can be hypocritical. But they should be called on it.

New York Mayor @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has revealed the 1st site identified for the city’s municipal grocery store program. Mamdani plans to develop five city-run grocery stores — one in each borough.
Grocery stores aren’t just businesses. They are essential amenities. They’re infrastructure.

Why any boss on the planet imagines they have the right to direct people to withhold aid is beyond me.
It’s dreadful.
This business of being drilled into submission starts very young.
I had to teach a youngster the other day why it was ok to be late to something if you have to stop and render aid to someone.
That it was in fact our duty to do so, and in some countries, the law to do so.
About to read this with great interest, and you should too. It's about rigor and kindness in peer reviewing and editing.

Thanks for writing this up @chadtopaz.bsky.social
We wrote about reviewers' obligations to be both rigorous and kind (below).
This review was neither...
Pope Leo: "I don't look at my role as being political, I don't want to get into a debate with Trump, I don't think that the message of the gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people are doing. I will continue to speak out loudly against war."
“When a review contains factual errors, ignores the paper’s stated research question, and engages with none of the methods or results, the appropriate response from an editorial team is to get a new review.”
Absolutely. There is an editorial…

Alice Wong, an Asian-American woman in her early 50s, wears a black t-shirt that says “keep masks in health care”. She rocks a rich plum lipstick and cool multicolor sunglasses. She has a tracheostomy attached to a ventilator. The text reads, “The Sick Times. Alice Wong showed us Disability Justice makes our advocacy stronger. By Charlie McCone.”
Alice showed me I can lead a meaningful life — and be cool doing it — while sitting with my pain and limitations. And while we, sick and disabled, channel our rage back at those trying to ignore and erase us.
In the wake of her passing and her recent celebration of life, @loscharlos.bsky.social shares how Alice Wong taught him the power of Disability Justice and how she wielded it to bridge the hesitancy between disability, Long Covid, and COVID-cautious communities. bit.ly/4mohc12
