Our last Clogheen Marsh wader mist netting session of the winter last night. A Short-eared Owl that was hunting the marsh put off a good few of the waders coming in. We still managed 12 birds, a Mallard, 4 Redshank, a Snipe, 2 Black-tailed Godwit and 4 Curlew. The Curlew were all 2nd year birds!🪶
Nice!
Previous BTO longevity record for Curlew was 32 years 7 months, set in 2011.

The only project in Sweden currently utilising this method for Jacks is here at Ottenby Bird Observatory, with super interesting and rewarding data just in the last two Autumns with 40 tagged this year. Still much to learn about this species!
A bit stunned when this Bridled Tern appear in my ‘scope 150m infront of the hide at Fife Ness. It then hung around for 3 hours roosting on a buoy and feeding inshore (when pic taken) before heading off NE. A first for Fife. Glad we chose today for the all day seawatch! #birdingFife #rarebirdsUK

With passage seemingly over here @Ottenby, 55 Jacks ringed (25 MOTUS) has been the best Autumn on record. Undoubtedly boosted by thermal tech, catching these gems during the day will never get old.
I do the same here when its good thrush migration, especially mad watching LEOs hunt them around the lighthouse
