Only about 3 or 4 years ago, a deathly silent sitka plantation was clear felled here. Now it's thick with wild native trees, NONE of which was planted. It's already heaving with insects + birds, and will keep getting better if left alone.
THIS is how we should be bringing our forests back.

Alice Berkner founded Bird Rescue on this day in 1971—the same year pelicans were listed as endangered. 50+ yrs later, we’re still rising to meet the challenge. Over 100 pelicans have come into care in recent weeks. Thank you, Alice. #FoundersDay #WomenInScience
This is next level.
We know that the Liberal Party doesn't want to talk about their $600 billion nuclear plan.
But memo to Liberal candidates - if you are going to remove the word "nuclear" from your pamphlets maybe remove the "+" sign from before where it's meant to go.
We’re now into the fourth week of the election campaign and Dutton still hasn’t visited one of the communities that will have a nuclear reactor under his scheme.
Today he was less than 2 hours away from one community but couldn’t be bothered to show up.
Viola odorata var sulphuraea was my find of the week on the Shotley peninsula, Suffolk. @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour
A square of pork belly and a pair of gloved hands suturing a clean simulated wound closed again
The extracted 'cysts' (orange paint balls) fully intact in agreen kidney dish along side a pair of forceps and dissecting scissors.
It's great practice for budding surgeons to practice excising 'cysts' in the form of paint balls or bath pearls, as it teaches accurate and careful use of instruments. The 'cysts' should come out fully intact. #MedEd #SurgEd
Next post- how it *shouldn't* be done 🤣
Our Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are helping patients get the care they need, when they need it, all for free.
It’s why we're opening another 50, right across the country.
Pole position.
Three black-faced woodswallows sharing a pole at Point Lowly, Eyre Peninsula.
Morning all. 5.5 mm of rain in the gauge and all’s well.
Dutton, like Scotty from Marketing is now so toxic that his own MPs don't want to be seen campaigning with him.
If your own party hates you while sharpening their knives to stab you in the back, why should Australia vote for you!!?

Current electrical storms at the moment
Will definitely see some bushfires igniting as its very dry
Coalition not going to reduce visas for migrant parents, Dutton says The final question goes to whether the Coalition is planning to cut parent visas. Reporter Sara Tomevska asks Dutton three times if he’ll cut visas for migrant parents. Twice Dutton says generally the Coalition will cut migration, and that migration is a “significant contributor to young Australians [being] locked out of housing”. On the third attempt, Dutton says: In relation to parents, I’ve been clear about this, it’s an important part of the migration program. And we’re not going to reduce those. We’ve been clear in relation to it. And I believe very strongly we’ve got the best migration program in the world, but only if it’s well managed. He then ends the answer with a final pitch to voters ahead of early voting opening tomorrow, mentioning the petrol excise cut, cutting migration, and the promise to build more homes.
This is a lie, Peter Dutton. #Auspol
Dutton says migration is a “significant contributor to young Australians [being] locked out of housing”.
Migrants do NOT push up the price of housing.

Want the data?
Desperate Dutton as the polls look worse for him - LNP comes back to where they’re most comfortable - scaring people on law and order issues and inflating crime numbers. Predictable. Inevitable #auspol

I'm a climate change refugee. Couldn't afford to live in our lovely home town of 16 years any more. Have ptsd and stuff now. It's not fun.More will suffer, more are suffering. Don't vote Libs, they don't care.
Taking care of fellow is Australians is what the Street Side Medics do best.
This raises an intriguing question: could large-scale solar farms help restore degraded lands while generating renewable energy? According to the researchers, the answer is promising. Their findings suggest that photovoltaic installations can have a net positive impact on desert environments"
A bunch of pretty blue forget-me-nots nestled in the grass with the sun setting in the background.
Close up of the forget-me-nots.
An ivy-leaved speedwell plant held up against an out-of-focus bean field. The leaves are dark green, heart shaped, and hairy, and a tiny blueish purple flower is visible in the centre of the frame.
Another shot of the same flower.
Not sure if forget-me-nots fit this week's #WildFlowerHour #TinyPlants theme, but they're too pretty not to share.
Just in case, have a bonus ivy-leaved speedwell. The flowers were so tiny my phone struggled to focus on them. 🙃

Unspeakable evil. "Twenty-four hours before she was killed, it was announced that a documentary focusing on Hassouna’s life in Gaza since the Israeli offensive began would be debuted at a French independent film festival that runs parallel to Cannes." www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...
Xi now raising Trump’s tariffs by halting magnet and critical minerals exports to the US. China has 90% of rare earth refining producing essential magnets. US is NOT self sufficient. Like oil once was, rare earths are the trump card in this global powerplay. @nytimes.com
