Loved the day at @litdrive.bsky.social yesterday. Can’t wait to take all the new ideas into school next week! 🐝📚

Just watched one of the best Shakespeare performances ever. Oh, and saw Jonathan Bailey 😍😍😍😍
Tomorrow I hand in the manuscript for a book I’ve been working on before I even knew it would be a book. I’ve been collecting leadership quadrants for years and now they are going to be in this book (the greatest hits anyway!!). Out in June, pre orders TBC! Thank you @johncattedu.bsky.social
Might be behind on the game here, but this podcast is a fantastic performance of AIC. Will definitely be using alongside our upcoming read of the play for a quality experience.

For the last 18 months, I've been working on a top secret documentary to capture & deconstruct some of best teaching in UK.

I feel like this is day 89 of this week.
“Familiarity breeds confidence. Unless we look at ways to make texts more familiar, then we are always going to struggle.” #EnglishTeaching ⬇️
My new groups for EmpowerHER have been so great already this week. We all swapped answers using the quiz-trade sheet and discussed Florence Given as an inspirational voice. 💕
Simon Armitage is the Anti-Cunk here, talking with experts about unicorns. I admit, a certain amount of contextual knowledge is needed to get that! C.f. Philomena. 14 minutes of delightful wondering & enlightenment. #poetry #radio #animals #naturewriting www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
It would be interesting to ask these schools a set of questions. To start….
Do you have a 2 or 3 year GCSE?
Do you set for English/maths?
What % of staff are specialist teachers in the subject they teach?
What’s your hw policy?
How many hours do you give subjects?
School day hours?
What else?
Okay. Talk to me about cold/warm reads of lit texts at GCSE. The more my brain marinates around the idea of them, the more I’m like… why have I never done this before?
Eager to know experiences and thoughts…. @teamenglish1.bsky.social
I’ve been completely wiped out with the flu this week. The teacher guilt is strong.
#OTD in 1894 English novelist, playwright, and screenwriter J. B. Priestley is born.
Explore Priestley's ‘An Inspector Calls’ with Prof. John McRae on MASSOLIT. Prof. McRae explores key historical context before moving on to read the play scene by scene:
Oh absolutely.
It makes you really get back to basics with behaviour management doesn’t it? Building relationships at the exact same time 🤯🤯
Haha yes! One kid said today, “are you our supply???” 😂
Thank you 💓
Yeah absolutely. Even small things like if there’s a bell or not to signal lesson changeover, what the rules are around printing, what kind of forms to fill in for certain purposes… crazy!
I get that. I’m a new HoD too and thankfully my team have been really lovely. Just not used to being unaware of certain kids etc, how to approach and all those micro bits of knowledge we take for granted! Hang in there!
Re-establishing yourself in a new school with students is hard, ain’t it?
Best tips/tricks for quality homework using Microsoft Teams?? 📚
I’m excited to be returning to it this year! I thoroughly recommend this book to dive in to the wonderful novella that it is! @spryke2.bsky.social @teachals.bsky.social

A proper hidden gem!
My Mum is the best ♥️
Intentionally leaving my phone in another room, to avoid distraction, is very hard when you need some kind of authenticator, code, email, activation password to get into any account ever.
