Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week to our amazing group of volunteers! Because Wolf Haven receives no federal or state funding, we depend on this amazing group of people to help us carry out our mission of conserving and protecting wolves and their habitat 💚 #volunteerappreciationweek #wolfhaven

At our McCleery Ranch sanctuary in Montana, female wolf, Thing Two, recently created some enrichment of her own when she playfully scent-rolled on a raven that her or her companion and brother, Thing One, had previously caught in their enclosure. #wolfsanctuary #wolves #wolfhaven #sanctuarylife

Happy Bat Appreciation Day! Did you know... 350+ Yuma bats & little brown bats live on Wolf Haven’s property? Both species capture insects on their wings & glean them from foliage. Bats are important regulators of insect populations & reduce the numbers of insects that cause human discomfort/disease

At our McCleery Ranch sanctuary in Montana, father-daughter duo, Jerry and Tess, simultaneously enjoy the various “furniture” pieces in their enclosure. We aim to provide every enclosure with a variety of vertical structures and lean-tos to allow for respite from winter snowstorms and summer sun.

As a sanctuary, we're always working to provide our residents as much room to engage in natural behaviors and simply "be" in as natural a setting as possible. That means male wolfdog, Mesa, can spend as much time as he wants lounging around in his enclosure, watching animal care staff work nearby.

Spring is in the air, and many of the individuals in our sanctuary are in a playful mood. Wolfdogs Layla and Lore have settled into an affectionate and spirited companionship. There is no better feeling than watching a new bond grow and deepen at Wolf Haven. Photos by Gelane Clements. #wolfsanctuary

#ThrowbackThursday Shadow (2010-2023), was one of Wolf Haven's most memorable residents. For many years, his handsome face was the first one visitor's would see when they entered the sanctuary. Shadow was known for his gangly & goofy nature, and for always wanting to have the last word during howls

Male wolfdog, Luca, has a curious way of enjoying his meals. Almost every time he gets fed, he buries his portion of food. However, he doesn’t leave it cached for long. Mere minutes afterward, he digs it up to guard or to eat! This is one of Luca’s adorable quirks that highlight his individuality.

It's Montana Monday! Female McCleery wolf Speedgoat thoroughly enjoyed tearing apart a cardboard box to get to the rib cage hidden inside. Enrichment is important for keeping sanctuary animals curious about their environments and engaged in natural behaviors.

It’s #ThrowbackThursday! Today we remember Willow (2013-2023), a gorgeous female black wolf with the mannerisms of a mischievous pup. We’re not sure what life comes next, but we are sure Willow is as energetic, playful, and fun-loving as she was in this one. #WolfHavenInternational #WolfHaven #wolf

Just like at our Tenino sanctuary, our animal care team at McCleery Ranch uses trail cameras to monitor and observe our more cautious residents while minimizing disturbance to their everyday lives. Here’s a stunning look at Tracer, a seven-year-old male wolf residing at McCleery Ranch. 🐺 #WolfHaven

It’s with great sadness that we report the passing of M1135 (Cejitos). Cejitos was born at Wolf Haven in April 2008 and lived his almost-18 years here. His fiery resilience and noble bearing are dearly missed. RIP, Cejitos.

Coyote Norman has settled in so well. He frequently raises his voice to join sanctuary howls - and to let his general opinions be known. Norman and Hope have developed a wonderful bond, and his presence has made her more relaxed and playful.
