Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

Pipe is dealt with, though the part I need is out of stock in most of the state and won't arrive until Wednesday.
Computer has mystically booted after a few diagnostic attempts, including reseating RAM, and is currently making a recovery disk.
THERE WILL BE GAMING AND WRITING.
... After lunch.
Chill Saturday plans of gaming and writing have been interrupted by a burst pipe and a non-booting computer. Good thoughts that your Saturday is going better!
Art of Daisy stood in a dark field. We're looking up at her from below, through the grass, and her stark white dress is drenched in blood. Her eyes are shining like an animal's in the dark, and although her hair is cut short, long wispy strands are caught by the wind. Her speech reads "Come on outside."

Wore two sweaters to bring in the trash can, because it's snowing. Also wore sandals, because it's Colorado.
Light pencil sketch of a man with long blond hair. He has his head tilted to one side and a creepy smile that's made all the creepier by a set of pointed teeth.
Creepy in-progress character portrait I was working on today! Hope you're having a great Friday and have a fantastic weekend ahead!

A digital painting of an atmospheric environment where a group of peoples are dancing, the one the most in front is a man with a long coat and a top hat, leading the way with his lamp. Some strange metallic pointy creatures are also dancing among them. The mood is obscure and eery and yet hopeful and light.
Midnight Dance
i'd like to finish & sell another book one of these days but increasingly i look at the state of publishing & it's like, if this is what a writer wrestling with their soul for a year or two is worth to you guys i might be better served just hitting myself in the crotch with the claw end of a hammer
Why generative AI doesn’t belong in crafting/handmade spaces We’re going to use a plot point in Schitt’s Creek for this example... You may be familiar with it! A photograph of Alexis Rose saying "Ew, David no!"
Why generative AI doesn’t belong in crafting/handmade spaces Later in the television series Schitt’s Creek (S5 Ep10), main character David Rose decides to open an apothecary called “Rose Apothecary.” (Photo of David Rose) He hand curates and selects handmade, high quality items made by small business owners he knows he can trust. (Photo of Rose Apothecary building) It is an adorable addition to an otherwise run-down town, and it does well! High quality, handmade items sell at a premium
Why generative AI doesn’t belong in crafting/handmade spaces During a local small business event in town in which he is representing Rose Apothecary, he notices a former business partner who has set up a table not far from him. (Photo of David and Stevie at the event) She and her business partner, who looks suspiciously like David himself, are selling “hand curated, hand made” lotions, creams, etc, just like Rose Apothecary. (Photo of Antonio and Wendy at the event) However, they are selling them much, much cheaper, undercutting David. It later turns out that they are purchasing cheap manufactured goods and relabeling them to make them seem hand crafted/small batch.
Why generative AI doesn’t belong in crafting/handmade spaces This is exactly what generative AI, whether used in whole or part does when placed in a handmade space. It devalues artisans who have spent a lot of time, money, and effort making something good by creating a “rip-off” product that sells for cheaper. Even if you are “only” using generative AI for labels or logos, even having just that reduces trust in all of the vendors around you for anyone who has a keen eye to AI generated assets. This destabilizes trust in the entire collective of artisans, because if one vendor is getting away with using gen AI, then who else is?
Today I'm making a presentation and this is part of it
If you are currently writing a pseudo-medieval romantasy and are an agricultural novice, I do expert copyediting for a very reasonable fee that includes checking things like this.
A pink floating house is seen suspended a few meters in the air, on it rests a few coyotes. the house and lawn is in disrepair. a strange skull creature looms in the background.
A strange place.
A cartoon dragon crossed with a button mushroom. He's got two little fangs and long, branchy wings. A speech bubble contains a bubbly question mark, because he's just as curious about you as you are about him.
The same mushroom dragon on a black shirt, being modeled by a young black man. He's looking down at the design, and if he could actually see it and this wasn't some kind of template, he'd probably be laughing.
The same mushroom dragon on a canvas tote bag being held by a woman. Her face isn't visible.
I'm finally getting around to loading up some of the Inktober pieces to merch! Here's our little button mushroom friend, newly available out on Redbubble! :D

Ink drawing of a woven basket in the shape of a dragon, with little button eyes. The background is a splashed gradient from brown to blue with spatters of dark brown.
The same woven dragon basket as a holographic sticker.
There's something oddly awesome about a wicker dragon. If you agree, maybe you wanna check out this lil fren on all the home goods and tees? Stickers, too! And they look smashing on a water bottle.

The 'eyelashes' on a southern ground hornbill would make a model envious, but here's a neat trick:
Those AREN'T eyelash hairs. They're modified FEATHERS.
Let's take a look at these specialized structures & why the southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri) needs these long velvet veils.

I'm doing copy-edits now (for two different books!) and whenever I get to one of those (sadly correct) notes that identifies a timeline issue or a plothole, I'm basically like
"Well, I guess I'll delete the book now and walk into the woods."
Ink drawing of a diamond dragon. Predominately white, the dragon's crystalline body and wings have pink and blue surfaces to display its angles. It has a long, beaked face, and it's always seemed very haughty to me.
I'm working on an art book to collect all my dragon art from over the years... here's one from 2021 I never did anything with: a diamond dragon!

Aeron Alfrey
Drafting the dragon art book and just unironically wrote "Other inspirations included my cat’s toe beans, a gerbil tail, and demonic forces" and I'm not sure if that's brilliant or I should maybe stop working for the day.
