Story Track: Patty Griffin’s “Shine a Different Way” is a song about releasing the urge to control the narrative–both for ourselves and for others. It’s about allowing people to be who they are. About breaking free from our mental ruts so we can “shine a different way tomorrow.”

Story of the Week: When we write the narrative of a disagreement, we’re right and the other person is wrong. Why is it so hard to realize the truth is more nuanced? In @ellenbirkettmorris.bsky.social's story both characters lack this nuanced perspective.

Story Track: Mazzy Star’s “Into Dust” is a song about impermanence. Every living thing–from a fish to a father–eventually disappears, (re)turns to dust. Gyotaku creates art from a living creature. It is an act of preservation. A remembrance of what was.

Our Story of the Week is a strange unsolved mystery about a unique art form. Written by a debut author!

New story of the week is up today. This is the author’s first publication, and the writing is excellent.

That's right. So many good writers out there who need homes for their stories.
Agreed. And it is the author's first publication!
Story of the Week! Clues on a canvas, details left to the hand of the artist, a copy that hints at its original without definitive truth. The narrator/artist/reader must fill in the unknowns and arrive at their own interpretation.

Hey, that’s us!
Story Track: The Kill for Love album by Chromatics is one of my top records of the past twenty years. The track “These Streets Will Never Look the Same” is a fitting match for @lucidillusions.in’s story with its eerie synth and lyrics.

Cutleaf (not on Bluesky) is open for subs from April 1 - 15 for publication in 2027. Really great journal that pays, and there is no cost for submission. Prose (NF/F) both cap at 500 subs, and poetry caps at 300 subs. Highly recommend checking them out and submitting: cutleafjournal.com/submit
I dug the hell out of this one.

Story of the Week: Suvajeet Duttagupta (@lucidillusions.in) explores the concept of digital addiction in his story “The Digital Familiar” wherein a teenage girl becomes psychologically dependent on an AI(?)-powered phone app.

This story is so well-written that I immediately re-read it, to see the darkness hidden within. Beautiful and hopeful, with an eye firmly fixed on less-hopeful realities.
Story Track: Like Deb Blenkhorn’s story, Taylor Swift’s “Seven” remembers a childhood friend whose “house was haunted.” Both stories tell of pain and hope intertwined, of girls (later women) overcoming dark histories and moving forward the best they can.
