Lesbians and the Lavender Scare - JSTOR Daily Lesbian relationships among government workers were seen as a threat to national security in the 1950s. But what constituted a lesbian relationship was an open question.

"... one rationale behind getting gay people out of government employment was that they could be subject to blackmail. But a deeper one was the idea that being gay reflected a failure of “character.”

Stunning photos from my friend Paul Koudounaris of 19th-century wax moulages from Museo de Medicina Mexicana in Mexico City. These objects enabled doctors to study contagious conditions such as syphilis, leprosy, and smallpox without the risk of infection.

Great day, yesterday. I have to return because my guy is in an unmarked public grave (along with 13 other people unknown to him in life), hence not being able to find the precise spot immediately. We also visited the pet cemetery, which was very poignant. The place is in full bloom. Good times.

Clay Artifacts Found in King Tut's Tomb May Have Been Part of a Ritual Honoring the Egyptian God Osiris The four clay troughs were initially thought to have served as stands for gold-plated staffs. Now, a researcher has presented a new theory about their purpose

“The whole burial chamber seems to be set up to recreate a funerary rite known from later times called ‘the Awakening of Osiris."

I suspect the corpse's make-up would be more lifelike than whatever the hell the Tangerine Tyrant applies to his mug.

@thejanine.bsky.social , please remind me how long it took to get dog walkers to comply with the dog lead rule at Arnos Vale?

People are selfish, aren't they... the most basic of courtesies would be to clear up after your dog. Ditto keeping your dog on a lead. And that poor cub. That's hideous.
