Depth Anything 3 transforms 2D camera trap images into measurable 3D space:
→ Automated metric measurements
→ Distance sampling without markers
→ Morphometrics without invasive field work
Game-changer for wildlife monitoring!

Hosting my first #TED at #TEDAI Vienna: Discovering the Hidden World of Invasive Plant Species with AI (I had to smuggle some invasive plants into the Hofburg, Vienna ;-)
New paper out: How AI could enhance biodiversity in energy planning?
We analyzed wind projects in Austria - found huge data gaps in environmental assessments. AI-supported biodiversity monitoring (bioacoustics, camera traps, eDNA) could change the game.

Definitely kein Elefant.
Brogi: wolves kill fallow deer, then only return to eat 3% of carcass. Wild boars eat 80% of what's left. For those still unaware of how wolves in Europe are different from those in North America, check Fig. 1: this is happening 3 km from the leaning tower! link.springer.com/article/10.1...

The environment appears to be a mix of bare trees and some greenery, suggesting it might be late winter or early spring. The timestamp on the image indicates it was taken on March 18, 2022, at 7:46 AM."
"The image shows a red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in a natural setting, likely a forest or woodland area. The fox is standing on a fallen tree trunk near a body of water, possibly a small stream or pond.

Running #Deepseek with its Multimodal model Janus-Pro-7b locally is really crazy. I show this camera trap picture and ask: "Explain this picture. What animal species do you see?" See the answer in the follow up post. #tech4wildlife

Last season we opened our first bioacoustics exhibition in the schlossORTH National Park Centre at the Donau-Auen National Park. @puschmann.bsky.social designed the wonderful exhibition. You might hear and feel the sounds of fish, bats, birds and insects. #tech4wildlife
