We remain committed to supporting Roma communities and to challenging the barriers that prevent people from accessing their rights.
Opré Roma! ✊
Posts by Citizens' Rights Project
Today is not only a moment to celebrate Roma culture and contributions, but also to recognise the ongoing discrimination many still face — and the need for systems that are fair, accessible, and inclusive for all.
Brexit has not affected everyone equally. For many Roma people, it has deepened existing inequalities and increased the risk of exclusion — from housing, employment, and essential services.
Despite this, Roma communities continue to show resilience, strength, and solidarity.
Through this work, we have seen first-hand how systemic barriers — including language, digital exclusion, discrimination, and requirements that do not reflect different cultural and lived realities — have made it harder for Roma communities to secure their rights.
Today, on #InternationalRomaDay, we stand in solidarity with Roma communities across Scotland and beyond. 💙💚❤️
At Citizens Rights Project, we have worked alongside many Roma individuals, families and professionals navigating the EU Settlement Scheme and its aftermath.

Four years after the EUSS deadline, people are still waiting for decisions. Delays and errors have left this EU citizen unable to travel, separated from family, and living in uncertainty—proof that EUSS support remains vital.

While this client could pursue her case, many migrants still face gaps in early advice, tribunal guidance, and access to representation - even after winning their case.

We have supported several students who were misinformed or wrongly advised after Brexit. This case highlights the importance of specialist EU Settlement Scheme advice — built on years of experience supporting EUSS applications since 2019.
🌍 #InternationalMigrantsDay
This story is a reminder that people are still being left behind by the EU Settlement Scheme, even years after the deadline. Late applications, lack of information, and loss of funding mean specialist EUSS support remains essential.

This testimony shows how immigration and welfare issues are often deeply connected. By building trust through one service, we’re able to understand wider needs and offer joined-up support that helps people move towards greater stability, independence, and autonomy.

To commemorate this day, our latest blog reflects on the current migration landscape in the UK and Scotland. We also stress the importance of services that are migrant-led, multilingual, and grounded in lived experience.
🌍 #InternationalMigrantsDay2025 #ItTakesACommunity
Today we reaffirm that human rights belong to everyone, regardless of status or origin. In the face of hostile narratives and exclusionary systems, defending migrants’ dignity and rights takes a community.
