This black-and-white studio portrait photograph captures Mary Louise Booth (April 19, 1831 – March 5, 1889), the pioneering American journalist, translator, and editor who became the founding editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Shown from the waist up against a plain, neutral studio backdrop, the young Booth gazes directly at the viewer with a calm, serious, and intelligent expression—lips gently closed, eyes steady and composed—conveying quiet determination and intellectual poise. Her dark hair is elegantly styled. She wears a dark, high-necked Victorian dress with voluminous puffed sleeves, a row of small buttons down the front, and a delicate white lace collar fastened with a prominent brooch. The formal, centered composition and soft lighting create a mood of dignified professionalism and quiet strength typical of mid-19th-century portraits of accomplished women. Booth rose from modest circumstances and multiple low-paying writing and translation jobs to lead Harper’s Bazaar for 22 years (1867–1889), shaping it into America’s premier fashion and literary magazine for women. Her salary was frequently cited as the highest earned by any woman in the United States at the time. This image powerfully symbolizes her trailblazing role in opening high-level editorial positions to women in American publishing.

The Patriarchy is trying to deny women to vote in 2026. To take away every importright we've fought for & already won

These women were the justice bringers that the Patriarchy is so afraid of
Afraid we will turn into. I have great & saddened news
We're already there

21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.

22. We must resist the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism. We, in America and more broadly the West, have for the past half century resisted defining national cultures in the name of inclusivity. But inclusion into what?

Opinion | The Truth About Mary Todd Lincoln

Historian here 💯some of the unhinged attacks on Mary Todd Lincoln by historians like Michael Burlingame border on misogyny and completely misrepresent the historical record. She was a favorite among radicals like Charles Sumner and black abolitionists. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/11/o...

I don't think it's ethical to build a majority government through floor crossings and I think democracy works better when we have minority governments with opposition MPs working together to best reflect the interests of Canadians who voted them in and scrutinizing legislation

Wild that Altman is being sued by his sister for repeated sexual abuse and that doesn’t come up in basically every conversation about him. I get that it’s alleged but if that shit was happening to someone else I feel like that would come up, particularly if that person had a history of lying a lot.

Has anvone dealt with fake reviews? This person
is mad because I used Al to illustrate my book and
wrote a review without actually reading or
purchasing the book. I reported it to Amazon but
was just wondering if anyone else has experienced

Book contains generated content that does
not belong to the author

When I see authors like
Choosing
to use generated illustrations, it makes me
believe they do not stand by their own product. I
would support the author if they paid for real
illustrated artwork- it is shameful since the story
could have been helpful to children going through
the same thing. Since the art is obviously
generated by artificial intelligence, I don't have
confidence that the written content belongs to the
author; The author chose to use generated art
and so the book content is likely to be generatec
as well. Invest your money elsewhere, this book
is not worth the price.

I just discovered that #Amazon is charging for a Kindle copy of my e-book, which the publishers and I published CC-licensed and free of cost. We didn't list it on Amazon, only on Archive .org, the publisher's site, and Google Play.

This black-and-white portrait of Frances Perkins captures her in a dignified, close-up pose.

She is wearing a dark, structured tricorn-style hat and a coat with a voluminous, dark fur collar that frames her face. A small white bow or decorative element is visible at her neckline. Her expression is calm and composed, with a slight, thoughtful smile as she looks directly at the camera. The background is a soft, neutral grey, keeping the focus entirely on her.
